Deshaun Watson to undergo season-ending surgery to repair ...
The Browns announced that starting QB Deshaun Watson will undergo surgery to repair his Achilles injury, which will end his 2024 season.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) confirmed on Monday morning that Watson sustained a ruptured right Achilles tendon in the second quarter against the Bengals in Week 7. Watson was injured in the final two minutes of the second quarter, when he ran up the middle on a quarterback draw but stumbled and gave himself up on the play.
As Watson was tended to on the field and the cart was brought out, his teammates all gathered around him to wish him well. Watson was carted off the field and ruled out for the remainder of the game.
"We told him we were gonna fight," CB Greg Newsome II said following the matchup against the Bengals. "We told him we were gonna do our best to go out there and play for him. Like I said, anyone that cannot go off on their own willpower hurts. But at the end of the day, we are all humans and an injury like that is sad, and I give a lot of credit to the Bengals players who came over and prayed for him or gave a quick message to him."
Watson's injury will require surgical repair, and he will miss the remainder of the 2024 season. A full recovery is expected.
"I mean it sucks," Newsome said. "Deshaun [Watson] is just someone who works his tail off and has been through a lot. You know we all have his back, but to see him go down like that is sad, especially going off on the cart since he can't walk himself off. It is definitely sad, and I wish him a safe and speedy recovery."
Through the first seven games of the season, Watson completed 137 of 216 passing attempts for 1,148 passing yards and five touchdowns. He also threw three interceptions and was also sacked a league-high 33 times this season.
