Watch Dick Van Dyke Star in Coldplay's Music Video for 'All My Love'
Coldplay has released a video for their recent song, “All My Love,” starring 98-year-old actor Dick Van Dyke. The special, extended “Directors’ Cut” edition of the clip, co-directed by Spike Jonze and Mary Wigmore, arrives ahead of the official music video, set for release on December 13th, Van Dyke’s 99th birthday.
The video was filmed at Van Dyke’s Malibu home and features the actor, known for his roles in classic movies Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, ruminating about age, family, and love.
Van Dyke and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to preview a clip of the video and to discuss their collaboration. When asked how they connected, Van Dyke admitted it’s a pairing he never expected. “They said, ‘Chris Martin called,’” he recounted to Kimmel. “I said, ‘Who?’… To tell you the truth, I didn’t know who he was.”
Martin quipped, “I didn’t know who you were either. I said, ‘We’re looking for an old guy. Who’s the oldest guy?’”
Martin then explained that the video was an idea he had with Jonze because he and Van Dyke live only about eight miles apart. “One day a few years ago, I asked if he would come and have breakfast with me and my kids, and he was very kind,” Martin recalled. “He came with his beautiful wife Arlene.” He added that Mary Poppins is his “number one.”
“All My Love” appears on Coldplay’s most recent LP, Moon Music, which was released in October. The band spent a good chunk of 2024 on the road in the lead-up to the release of the album on their Music of the Spheres world tour.
They most recently wrapped a run of shows in Australia and New Zealand, and they’ll hit the road again early next year with dates in the Middle East and Asia (including what may be their biggest show ever in Ahmedabad, India). A North American leg kicks off May 31st in Stanford, California, and wraps July 27th in Miami.
The band is set to perform at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, which will air live Thursday, December 12th, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox. Coldplay is up for two awards: Top Duo/Group and Top Rock Touring Artist.
In June, Van Dyke became the oldest Daytime Emmy winner ever when he was awarded for his guest role on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. “I feel like a spy from nighttime television,” the actor said in his acceptance speech. “I’m the oldest nominee in history. I can’t believe it. I was playing old men all my life. If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!”
