England’s EURO 2024 quarter-final against Switzerland will take place in Dusseldorf at a stadium in which the Three Lions have never played before.
The Dusseldorf Arena has played host to four EURO 2024 matches prior to the last-eight clash, however, with France's win over Austria, Ukraine's victory against Slovakia and Spain's triumph over Albania taking place there, as well as Les Bleus' last-16 tie with Belgium.
First opened in September 2024, the stadium – also known as the Merkur Spiel-arena – is the home ground of 2. Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf, who were in the top tier of German football between 2018-20.
The quarter-final will be the last game of the tournament to be played at the Dusseldorf Arena, which is situated on the Rhine a few miles outside Dusseldorf city centre.

Fan Parks: Burgplatz, Schauspielhaus, Rheinufer
There are three possible destinations for fans situated in Dusseldorf. The Fan Zone Burgplatz is full of activities, music and entertainment throughout EURO 2024, as well as screenings of every match. For theatre enthusiasts, a play titles "Faith, Love. Football" has been commissioned for EURO 2024 and will take place at Fan Zone Schauspielhaus. And if you want to enjoy an alternative view of the matches, the Public Viewing Rheinufer will screen every game of the tournament. Fans can then enjoy a scenic walk down the Rhine to the Dusseldorf arena.
All three parks offer a wide range of food and drinks. Burgplatz and Rheinufer are free to enter with no ticket required, while you can buy tickets for the play at Schauspielhaus by clicking here (link only in German).
Getting to Dusseldorf
Trains: Dusseldorf Central Station is the city’s main local and long-distance transport hub, around 7km away from the Dusseldorf Arena. Sportpark Nord / Europaplatz is the arrivals-only subway station, while Merkur Spiel-Arena / Messe Nord is the departures-only subway station. Dusseldorf Central services both.
Planes: Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) is situated just 10 minutes away from the city centre by public transport. It is the third-biggest airport in Germany.
Automobiles: It is not recommended that you travel to Dusseldorf by car during EURO 2024. Tournament traffic can increase your journey time significantly and parking at the stadium is reserved for only pre-booked cars. If you have no choice but to drive, consider one of the city's Park + Ride facilities.
