"Sigmas', 'cap-oholics', 'fries in the bag' - translating Senator ...

There were words never heard before in Parliament yesterday, as Fatima Payman delivered an appeal 'to the sigmas of Australia'.

The Western Australian Senator said she was trying to connect with younger members of the community "who often feel like they slip through the cracks", by filling her speech with contemporary, Gen Alpha lingo.

Phrases like 'skibidi' and 'lil bro' were subsequently recorded into Hansard.

The speech was written by her 21-year-old policy advisor, Ezra Isma, who says that he wouldn't necessarily use such language earnestly outside the chamber.

"Sometimes, with my friends, we might use it ironically, but never a genuine use" he said.

Senator Payman and Ezra Isma broke down the speech with Trevor Chapell.
