Fire downgraded in south of Perth

Kwinana Freeway between Russell and Rowley Road has reopened as firefighters have managed to get on top of a series of fires in Hammond Park and Aubin Grove south of Perth.

Lives and homes were being threatened by the fires in an area near the Kwinana Freeway and Rowley Road in Aubin Grove and Hammond Park in the City of Cockburn but by 1.30pm the fires were downgraded to watch and act.

An all clear was issued for residents in Wattleup.

The fire took hold in multiple spots in Hammond Park including a neighbourhood park.

Flames also engulfed at least two structures that appear to be sheds and containers.

The fire started near the intersection of Rowley Road and Kwinana Freeway and was first reported at 11.18am on Wednesday morning.

Ground and aerial crews battled the blazes.

Perth is in the second day of a historic November heatwave expected to last until the weekend.
