Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 has arrived. For Fortnite fans, there's arguably nothing more exciting in the entire game than a new chapter launch. Such an update brings new weapons on a new map, often with new traversal abilities, and so much more. Of course, it also means a brand-new battle pass with eight more skins to unlock on top of dozens of other rewards all season long.
In this rundown of Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1, we'll go over all there is to know about the latest landmark reset in the Fortnite universe. Players have grown accustomed to a new chapter in every December for a few years now, but this may be the biggest one yet--just ask Godzilla.
For many players, the best part of the game is chasing down all the cosmetic rewards in the seasonal battle pass. The Chapter 6 Season 1 battle pass includes eight skins, as has long been customary, including not one, but two collab skins.
One of them, Baymax, comes from Disney's Big Hero 6 franchise. Baymax is quite big, but he merely sits in the shadow of the other tie-in character this season: Godzilla.
The king of monsters, Godzilla will be both a playable skin and, apparently, an in-game event, judging by a teaser that shows Godzilla at scale, stomping around the Fortnite island.

A Japan-inspired map gets Japan-inspired weapons and loot, of course. This season kicks off with a ton of new options, like the Fury Assault Rifle and the Surgefire SMG.
Special masks, called Oni Masks, will also grant various abilities to its wearers in each round, which are sure to make them highly sought-after items for any inventory pool.

Typically we go over map changes at the start of each new season, but naturally, such a guide is more focused on the new map, period, at the start of a new chapter.
Fortnite's Chapter 6 Season 1 map is a bit like if Chapter 4's Mega City was the aesthetic for the whole island, except where Mega City was like a cyberpunkish Neo Tokyo, the Chapter 6 map is more like historical Japan--the same way Chapter 5's map was like a historical Mediterranean tour.

Fortnite's traversal mechanics have taken big steps forward (no pun intended) with each new chapter, but in Chapter 6, it's more like a giant leap forward. Okay, pun intended that time.
Four new movement abilities will be usable starting this season, each of them inspired by classic moves from the parkour community. They are:
Ledge JumpRoll LandingWall KickWall ScrambleWhen you sprint off a ledge, you'll automatically perform a ledge jump, giving you more airtime and longer range. Roll landing breaks your fall and keeps you on the move as you somersault back into a sprinting stance, restoring some stamina in the process.
Wall kicking lets you boost yourself off the side of a vertical obstacle, such as a wall (duh), letting you perform another roll landing or even another wall kick from there. Lastly, wall scrambling lets you climb some vertical heights you'd otherwise not be able to grab the top of, giving you more leeway with the heights you can climb to.
These new moves will be featured in all the major modes of Fortnite: Battle royale, Zero Build, Reload, Fortnite OG, and Creator-made islands.
As teased by Epic, Fortnite OG is coming back again--and this time, it's staying put as a new permanent mode alongside the other major PvPvE modes in the game.
In case you missed it, Fortnite OG is not in the game on launch day for Chapter 6 Season 1. Instead, it launches next weekend, December 6. That's probably for the best. I expect a new season and the return of OG happening at the same time may have resulted in some sort of doomed sci-fi experiment with Epic's servers.
A subtle but possibly major change is that Fortnite weapons will be adopting hitscan functionality starting today. This means bullets fired no longer rely on a physics simulation as they travel across the island toward your target. Instead, firing guns will hit a target if the game registers your aim as on-target.
This is a system many competitive PvP games use--and even one Fortnite used to use. Many fans hoped for Epic to revert to this system, and now it finally is.
Once the servers come back online, we should be able to determine when this first season of Chapter 6 comes to a close. That's because the battle pass screen necessarily mentions when the pass expires, and from that, we can infer the season's end date.
For now, expect it to be around the beginning of March, barring any delays or unexpected changes to the schedule for 2025.
