AFL News 2024: Geelong vs Fremantle, Bailey Banfield elbow into ...
Fremantle forward Bailey Banfield could be in serious trouble after he dug his elbow into Geelong defender Zach Guthrie's head on Saturday afternoon.
The Cats overcame the Dockers by 11 points at Optus Stadium, in a crucial win to keep their top four hopes alive, as finals loom large.
But it was one act from Banfield that marred Geelong's win, which will likely draw serious MRO attention.

During the fourth quarter, Guthrie took a mark deep inside the Dockers' forward 50, before being brought to ground by Banfield, who was behind him.
When Guthrie fell onto his stomach, Banfield sat on top of him and moved his elbow, before digging it in to Guthrie's neck and head.

The act drew all the wrong attention for Banfield, who was evidently frustrated with the kick that he failed to mark.
However, the umpires did not see the act and therefore, did not award Guthrie a free kick.
He did have the mark however, and got up relatively unscathed.
"That's not good at all. That's a brain fade there," Fox Footy commentators agreed.

The Cats went on to record a gutsy victory, after being down by four points at three-quarter time.
They celebrated star premiership forward Jeremy Cameron's 250th in style, as they look ahead to their clash with the Saints in round 23.
Geelong lept into fourth after the win, while the Dockers dropped to sixth, with just two home-and-away rounds left.
Meantime, Banfield will face a nervous wait for the MRO findings, which will be released late on Sunday.
