Dockers kick two quick goals

From stoppage fest to shootout, the Dockers have kicked two rapid fire goals via a Bailey Banfield free kick and then a snap from Sam Switkowski after some excellent tap work from Luke Jackson.

Cox off again

Now Cox has been sent back to the bench with a cut on the side of his face.

I can’t tell if it is from the knock he took in the first term or a new wound.

Either way, the American Pie is in the wars tonight.

Game on Collingwood’s termsBy Andrew Stafford

Collingwood haven’t put it on the scoreboard yet, but they’ve got the game on their terms now.

Walyalup’s ball movement has dramatically slowed — they’re finding it harder to pick their way through the Pies.

“There is just no composure. They are rushing it,” Luke Hodge said of Fremantle on Channel Seven’s coverage.

Pies miss chances

The Pies have been putting pressure in the Dockers and winning back the footy but they have seen three rushed shots for goal miss the mark.

The big test for the Dockers at this time will be how crisply they can link up when exiting defence.

Feeding turnovers to Collingwood is not a recipe for success.

QT: Collingwood 3.4 (22) to Fremantle 2.3 (21)By Andrew Stafford

Freo has given away a free kick off the ball and it has led to a Collingood goal on the siren via Harvey Harrison.

Frustrated forward Jye Amiss tried to grapple with Charlie Dean and got him on the jaw. It was light contact but was called a downfield free kick.

The home side led all quarter but now trails at the break.

The pressure and territory I referred to earlier is starting to tilt the game back towards Collingwood.

A couple of players to watch: Nick Daicos, obviously, is beginning to exert a major influence, with four clean clearances from seven touches. Look out.

And Joe Richards, in his third game, really couldn’t be more impressive.

He’s had six possessions, has already dished off an assist to Josh Daicos, and — most notably — is so clean on both sides of his body.

Bloodied Cox ready to go

Magpies big man Mason Cox took an accidental blow to the face from Freo ruckman Sean Darcy which knocked his glasses and made his nose bleed.

He has been treated and patched up. He should return shortly.

Pies out of sortsBy Andrew Stafford

It’s early days, but Collingwood look out of sorts so far tonight — they’ve been fumbling the football, on the ground and in the air, and don’t appear to be quite on the same page with each other.

Certainly, Walyalup’s inaccurate kicking has helped keep them in it.

But they’re starting to exert more of their customary pressure and win some territory.

Josh Daicos has pushed forward and booted a much-needed goal for the Magpies but they still trail.

Flowing goal from the Dockers

Andrew Brayshaw has booted a running goal to cap off a silky counterattack from Freo who rapidly went from half-back with several handballs and then a kick forward which set Brayshaw free to run into goal.

Promising for Freo despite missed shotsBy Andrew Stafford

Collingwood’s first goal comes very much against the early run of play — the Dockers have dominated, with Alex Pearce already making four intercepts off half-back.

So the Pies are going to have to find a way past him.

They’ve also taken three marks inside 50 for 1.2 and one out on the full.

Dockers forward Jye Amiss, clearly has a LOT of work to do on his shot for goal technique.

Overall, though, Justin Longmuir would like the trend of the game.
