The Gabba pool resembles a cricket field once again

Half an hour ago, the field looked like this ...

Now all the puddles are gone and the green grass is actually visible.

That's the good news.

The bad news is it's still raining and the clouds are still heavy overhead.

If we want to get any more play in today, we need the rain to stop and the sunshine to beam down hard.

Kane Williamson is out, in hilarious fashion, it must be said.

He defended a Matt Potts delivery into the ground, but then looked on, agast, as the ball bounced back up and towards his stumps. He turned and tried to get the ball away, and instead punted it into the poles.

He was looking good too, the former skipper, but now he's out for 44.

Are New Zealand good?

Just on the NZ V Eng series… what is that… are NZ good? Win in India get wiped at home.

Their 3-0 victory in India was about as unexpected a result as I think we've seen in Test cricket in years.

But aside from that, yeah they're alright. It's a settled side featuring a number of strong cricketers.

England though, are also a good side.

They may have suffered in India (losing 4-1). But they then obliterated West Indies at home 3-0 and beat Sri Lanka 2-1.

Sure, the 2-1 series defeat in Pakistan was a surprise, but that was a regression as opposed to the standard, I think.

Brendon McCullum's side are quite good.

And so are New Zealand - both on the rung below India and Australia at the moment for me.

We've all been there.

Whether it's cooped up in a cramped dressing room/pavilion, forced to watch re-runs of whatever movie the rest of the household wants to watch, or getting stuck in the concourse of a Test venue like the Gabba right now.

Rain is the bain of a cricket-watcher's existence.

The Bureau has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Brisbane.

"A severe thunderstorm likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding."

This is what the BOM suggests:

Park your car undercover away from trees.Close doors and windows.Keep asthma medications close by.
