By the year 2000, Garth Brooks had established himself as the most successful country artist of all time. With hundreds of millions of record sales in the US, Brooks was undeniably the biggest country star. Meanwhile, George Michael was one of the most iconic pop singers of the 1980s and 1990s.

However, George had been through a difficult few years following his arrest for lewd conduct in the States. Despite the legal setback, George owned the situation with the release of his song ‘Outside’, and he remained one of the biggest popstars globally.

According to a report by Smoothradio.com, in 2000, George and Garth took part in a one-off concert called Equality Rocks at the Robert F Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, DC. The concert was billed as the largest event benefiting LGBT issues and George was one of the headliners. He was joined by the likes of Garth Brooks, Queen Latifah, and Ellen DeGeneres.

The concert, held the night before the Millennium March, an LGBT march in Washington DC, saw over a million people take part. But arguably, the highlight of the entire event was the unexpected collaboration between George Michael and Garth Brooks.

During his electrifying performance of ‘Freedom 90’, George brought out Garth Brooks midway through the song, surprising the audience. The crowd erupted in applause as the two music legends performed together, crossing genres and captivating everyone in attendance.

Before he began his set, George also took a moment to open up about his private life and the legal troubles he had experienced in the States. His candidness resonated with the audience, further solidifying his status as a beloved artist.

This historic collaboration between George Michael and Garth Brooks not only showcased their immense talent but also conveyed a powerful message of inclusivity and unity. It proved that regardless of genre or sexual orientation, music has the ability to bring people together for a common cause.
