Here are this week's tips.

MORNINGTON GLORY (Race 2 No 10) This lightly raced gelding showed a stack of ability early on bolting in his maiden on debut before only being beaten 3-3/4 lengths in a Group 2 Danehill Stakes. He hasn't won since, but changing stable to Gavin Bedggood off a lengthy spell, he was heavily backed $7 into $4.40 and ran a big race to only be beaten a length. Kept fresh since is ideal and Beau Mertens should give him the right run with speed drawn inside and out. With natural improvement, he fights out the finish. BET: WIN

Melbourne Cup 2023: Likely field taking shape

FIRST IMMORTAL (Race 7 No 13) The barrier is only going to serve to get us a better price about a horse that would have been competitive in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday if they had chosen to run. A dominant winner under a huge weight second-up, he was then beaten by the wide gate when exposed for half the race and peaking in the last few strides in the Group 3 Bart Cummings. Now he's fit and D-Day to qualify for the Melbourne Cup, expect Jamie Kah to set him alight early in a race that doesn't look to have a lot of speed and with an ounce of luck getting over, he just wins. BET: WIN

‘Can‘t say I'm happy': Trainer critical of Werribee complex

SANDPAPER (Race 8 No 4) While not winning the form around this Godolphin gelding from the Queensland winter carnival reads outstanding through the likes of Rediener and Hawaii Five Oh for a Benchmark 84 at Geelong. He had nothing more than a barrier trial first-up at The Valley where he was heavily backed, when looking to have plenty to offer but never seeing daylight from as far out as the 500m. With a strong second-up record, if Damian Lane has an ounce of luck getting him cover from the tricky gate, he's the one to beat. BET: WIN

Banned: Frankie‘s Melbourne Cup quest ends in heartbreak

VON HAUKE (Race 9 No 6) I love the way this lightly raced son of Savabeel has returned from a spell and this looks an ideal race. He was a super win first-up when racing far too fresh and he took a giant step last start to Listed level at Flemington and in an on pace dominated race, he hit the line hard over 1400m. Way back in grade and suited by the extra 100m, if Jamie Kah can get him the right run from the middle gate, he should be able to take care of these. BET: WIN
