QT: Swans holding lead in tense arm-wrestle

Sydney holding a seven-point lead at the first change, but they've certainly not had it all their own way in that quarter.

Fremantle leads the disposal count 108-89, the inside 50 count 15-11, and the clearance count 11-7.

They've been wasteful in front of goal however, with Luke Jackson missing an easy set shot at the end of the quarter.

Plenty of spirit as expected from the Dockers tonight. It's been a proper arm-wrestle so far.

Dockers finally on the board after rapid Swans start

Fremantle finally has its first goal of the evening as Brandon Walker gets his side on the board!

A much-needed goal for Freo after the Swans had kicked the first three goals of the match.

Another Farrell bomb steadies Port Adelaide

Kane Farrell with another long-range bullet!

To say Port Adelaide needed that is a major understatement.

That goal came after Mitch Duncan missed a very gettable set shot a the other end. Geelong can't afford to miss too many chances like that you'd think.

Key Event

Geelong sensing comeback after Stengle's quick double

I reckon we've got a comeback on here at Kardinia Park!

Geelong sensing it, as Tyson Stengle kicks two goals in the space of a minute to start the third quarter.

Port's lead down to 30 points now. Geelong has kicked four of the last five goals in this one and the crowd is suddenly up and about.

Port Adelaide needs a silencer ASAP.

"They definitely need a steadier to get their belief back," says Matthew Richardson on commentary.

Hayward adds to lead after monster Heeney tackle

Will Hayward has Sydney's second of the night, but the story here is Isaac Heeney's tackle in the lead-up.

Heeney, considered a Brownlow Medal favourite, caught Fremantle's two-time winner of the award, Nat Fyfe, cold with a terrific tackle on the half-back flank.

From the ensuing free kick, the Swans move it forward with minimal fuss and after taking a mark inside 50, Logan McDonald flips a handball over the top to Hayward who dribbles it through.

Second half underway in Geelong

We're underway in the second half at Kardinia Park.

What can Geelong summon here?

McDonald gets Swans up and running with terrific snap

Logan McDonald gets the Swans' first goal of the night playing the role of a rover!

Joel Amartey is able to bring the ball to ground deep in the Swans' forward line, and it eventually ends with McDonald, who snaps it through.

A bitter blow for the Dockers, after they dominated territory early on.

Play underway in Perth

We're off and running in the West!

Can Fremantle do it for Cam McCarthy tonight? This one is sure to be a belter.

Key Event

Fyfe, Pearce in tears during McCarthy tribute

A beautiful tribute in Perth for Cam McCarthy as the lights are dimmed inside Perth Stadium for a moment of silence.

Fremantle players looking visibly emotional, with McCarthy's former teammates Nat Fyfe and Alex Pearce fighting back tears.

They'll be absolutely charged up and ready to go tonight, the Dockers.

"It's been on their mind all day, just how they deal with that situation," says former Dockers skipper Matthew Pavlich.

Port's dominance shown in the numbers

If you want to know just how dominant Port has been, the disposal count says everything.

Port currently leads the total disposal count 197-149, and incredibly has the top 10 leading ball-winners on the ground in the first half.

Ollie Wines has led the pack with 18 touches, while Zak Butters has added 17 of his own to go along with that goal in the second term.

No Cats player registered more than nine disposals in that half. Just a nightmare for Geelong.

Key Event

HT: Port comfortably lead despite Geelong's press

Port Adelaide well and truly in the driver's seat then as the siren sounds to end the second quarter.

The Power are yet to trail in this match and they've been good value for this 41-point half-time lead.

Every time Geelong looks like it might get a run on, Port manages to kick a steadier.

Port looking the goods to snap a drought at Kardinia Park that runs back to 2007.

Geelong is probably still a slight chance, given their ability to score quickly, but they'll need a fast start to the third quarter.

Butters nails miracle goal to steady Port Adelaide

What a goal this is from Zac Butters, and it comes completely against the run of play!

After a boundary throw-in, Geelong thinks its caught Horne-Francis holding the ball as the Port star drops it, Butters picks it up and snaps it through on the left foot under immense pressure.

What a superstar he is.

The boos ring around Kardinia Park. The Geelong faithful are NOT happy tonight.

Miers goals as Cats seek record comeback

Two goals in a row for Geelong and have we got another comeback on the cards?

Gryan Miers drills the set shot from 45m out and Port's lead is down to six goals after it was a game-high 49 points five minutes ago.

If Geelong is to come back, it would be its greatest comeback ever.

Key Event

Hawkins snaps four-game drought in milestone match

What a sight for sore eyes if you're a Geelong fan!

Tom Hawkins has his first goal since Round 3 and it's a much-needed one for the Cats.

Hawkins with the typical left to right bend from the wrong side for the right-footer.

Meanwhile, Chris Scott has activated his sub early, with Oisin Mullin coming on for Rhys Stanley.

Cats searching for some extra footspeed. It means Mark Blicavs will take over the rucking duties.

Farrell's long-range bomb continues Geelong's pain

Geez, Geelong's defence is just not awake tonight.

A free kick to Willem Drew on the 50m arc, and they've got 16 defenders in the defensive 50 and Port is still able to find Wines for an uncontested mark on the lead.

Wines dishes it off to Kane Farrell on the run, and Farrell drills it.

It's been a while since we've seen Geelong this out of sorts.

Rioli snaps through his third as Cats slide continues

What is going on here in Geelong?!

Rarely do we see the Cats get manhandled like this at Kardinia Park, but that's exactly what's happening.

A brilliant switch on the half-back flank catches Geelong's defence out once again, and the ball ends with Rioli taking a mark in the forward pocket.

Rioli nails the set shot from an acute angle, and this place is STUNNED right now.

Rioli's barely had a man anywhere near him all night.

Geelong's defence caught out again as DBJ strikes

Geelong looking very, very slow tonight and Port's lead is out to a game-high 35 points now.

Port Adelaide taking the game on at every opportunity and they've just run Geelong ragged.

The pace they're playing with has messed with Geelong's defensive structures.

A kick inside 50 finds Rioli out the back again and he handballs it to Darcy Byrne-Jones, who kicks the easiest of goals from inside the goalsquare.

Geelong in big, big trouble.

Cats getting killed at the stoppages

Five of Port's eight goals have come from stoppages, and there's some serious work to do for Geelong's engine room.

Port leading the inside 50 count 19-11 and the stoppage clearances 9-5.

Zak Butters has 10 touches after one quarter, and Jason Horne-Francis has added eight. The star duo putting in the work with skipper Connor Rozee sidelined.

Jekyll and Hyde Port at it again!

Is this the same Port I watched kick 5.18 against the Crows? C’mon lads!

- Tom

What a difference a week makes, eh Tom? Port excellent in that opening term.
