Who will get the first goal tomorrow?

“It’d be nice,” Tom Papley told Fox on potentially kicking the first goal and get the MCG into a huge rapture.

Sitting next to Justin McInerney in the utes at the parade, Papley was pretty calm, given how we usually see him on the field.

Hopefully, he’ll have a few chances to be up and about tomorrow. For the fan fare.

Heeney getting the fan supportBy Vince Rugari

“Should have won the Brownlow, mate,” one Swans fan just told Isaac Heeney.

Another asked him if he’d have at least 25 disposals tomorrow. And I’m pretty sure he was way too young to gamble.

Heeney is in a ute with Robbie Fox, who’s getting a chance to play with Callum Mills out. The pair are waving to every fan who calls out to them.

Not all players loving being at the parade ...By Andrew Wu

Joe Daniher is the early leader for the award for “I couldn’t be bothered being here”.

Wearing shades and a Lions bucket hat, Daniher brushed several calls of “hey Joey”, or perhaps he didn’t hear them. I don’t blame him.

This off-road parade lacks the charm of the traditional route through the Melbourne CBD. A lot of the buildings lining this year’s route wouldn’t have even been thought bubbles when Brisbane became the Lions.

Zorko taking it all in

“Fans screaming our names is pretty awesome,” Dayne Zorko told Fox Footy from the back of a ute following a marching band playing the Brisbane Lions’ song.

He said halfway through the year it might not look like they’d make the big decider, but the belief coach Chris Fagan had in them was unbelievable.

“And this competition is funny, you get a bit of a hot streak and anything can happen.”

How many South or Fitzroy fans are still around?By Andrew Wu

One thing I often think about when it comes to Sydney and Brisbane Lions supporters is, were you a South or Fitzroy fan? As you can imagine at this year’s grand final parade, this question is turbocharging through my mind.

One of the signs I search for is the scarf: is it one of the traditional scarves that show only the team’s nickname and does it have a club emblem or logo?

Fitzroy fans will have more Fitzroy red than maroon. They’ll also be wearing the jumpers with the FFC monogram, though with retro jumpers coming back in vogue this can be tricky. Ditto with the Swans, who have embraced the old red V of South Melbourne.

You see it all on grand final weekendBy Vince Rugari

Just saw a couple of blokes on stilts, one wearing a Swans guernsey, the other in a Lions guernsey.

Both also wearing strange sleeves on their arms and legs to give the impression that they are incredibly muscular individuals, walk through the parade route.

‘I think the whole squad should get medals’: Fagan

It’s a question that comes up every year. Should all players in the squad get premiership medals, even if they didn’t play in the grand final?

Lions coach Chris Fagan was adamant: Yes, they should.

“I think the whole squad should get medals. You know, teams win matches, but squads win premierships,” said Fagan.

“All the boys who don’t play contribute just as much. So for me, I think that makes logical sense that every player on your list should receive a medal if you’re lucky enough to win one.”
