'However it comes': Carey's cheeky Bairstow jab after ultra-rare ...

Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers

Ben McDermott’s unbeaten 95 off 61 balls has helped the Hobart Hurricanes to a respectable total of 7/165 in their BBL clash aginst the Adelaide Strikers.

In response, the Strikers are cruising at 1/84 off eight overs with the BBL’s leading run scorer, Matt Short (35) continuing his hot form. Chris Lynn is also unbeaten on 24.

Hobart were struggling at 5/36 and then 6/66 in their innings, but McDermott was able to keep his poise to stay afloat while his teammates went out cheaply around him before being able to smash a few boundaries late, including a huge six from the last ball.

“That is outstanding from Ben McDermott. They were in all sorts at 6/66,” Glenn Maxwell said on Fox Cricket.

Chris Jordan smashed 30 off 15 balls before being given out after a questionable DRS review.\

Jamie Overton (3/23) and Cam Boyce were the pick of the bowlers for the Strikers while Carey had three dismissals.

Earlier in the innings, Aussie Test and Strikers keeper Alex Carey was involved in a bizarre occurance.

While it sounds impossible, Hobart’s Nikhil Chaudhary was dismissed for a diamond duck (0 runs off 0 balls) despite facing one delivery.

Spinner Cam Boyce bowled one down leg side which was corralled by Carey who sharply took off the bails while Chaudhary’s foot was on the crease and not behind, constituting a stumping.

As it was called a wide, Chaudhary technically didn’t face a legal ball.

Asked about the quality of the stumping, Carey delivered a little Ashes jab to Jonny Bairstow.

“Always happy to get a stumping ... however it comes. Up to the stumps or back,” he said on Seven.

The Hurricanes were reeling at 5/36, but thanks to a calm head from opener Ben McDermott and the hard-hitting Chris Jordan, the visitors are back in the game.
