New housing boost for women over 55 experiencing homelessness ...
The Cook Labor Government has awarded more than $7 million to Uniting WA to develop a transitional accommodation service for women over 55 who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness at their property in Fremantle.
Historic Wyn Carr House will be refurbished and expanded to accommodate office space, support services and 12 bedrooms with a total of $7,090,228 funding delivered through:
$4,202,045 from the Cook Government Community Housing New Build grant;$819,925 from the Cook Government Community Housing Refurbishment grant; and $2,068,258 in Lotterywest grant funding.Eleven of the bedrooms will include a dedicated ensuite, and one room will be disability accessible with an accessible ensuite.
The ground floor will provide kitchen and laundry amenities for residents, and will include living spaces, a shared computer room and individual food lockers.
The development is being constructed by Western Projects and is expected to reach completion by late 2025.
