Mitchell Starc to Jaiswal. Wide outside off, Jaiswal let’s it go. Full ball, Jaiswal drives straight and gets a single. Inswinger to Rohit, half appeal for LBW, nothing from umpire and the batters take a single. Another appeal, this time for caught behind against Jaiswal. Starc squared up Jaiswal but didn’t hear anything off the bat. Three runs from the over.

India innings

Well, well. Look who has returned to the opening slot! Rohit Sharma has walked in with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

AUS 474 all out

Bumrah into the attack. Lyon has been given LBW. He has reviewed it but the players think that he’s out. Everyone’s packing up. Wicket umpire’s call. Australia is bowled out for 474.

AUS 472/9

Boland and Lyon continue to keep the Indian fielders on the field. Lyon sends a full delivery to the on-side boundary for a four.

AUS 465/9

AUS 464/9

Jadeja. OUT! Boland is given LBW. He has reviewed it though. Looks like there is an inside edge, not out. Successful review. Three runs from the over.

AUS 461/9

Akash Deep. OUT! Smith is gone. Smith comes down the track, gets an inside edge to his pads and the ball then ricochets towards the stumps. Unlucky dismissal for Smith who made 140 off 197 balls.

Scott Boland is the last man in. Akash tests him with bouncers. Successful over for India.

AUS 455/8

Ravindra Jadeja to begin post-lunch session. OUT! Mitchell Starc is bowled. Around the wicket, Starc comes forward to defend but misses the straighter one. Australia loses its eighth wicket.

Nathan Lyon at the crease now. Spinners have got the ball to zip.

Lunch, Day 2

Australia scored 143 runs at a run rate of over 5 in this session. If there was any doubt after the opening day as to who had the upper hand, Steve Smith and Pat Cummins have wiped them. Absolute marauding of the visitor in this passage of play as India struggled to find answers to the Aussie onslaught.

We wait to see how many more runs Australia adds on from here before having a go at the flimsy Indian top order. We will be back in 40 minutes for the post-Lunch session.

AUS 454/7 in 113 overs

Bumrah to Smith, one run through mid on off the first delivery. Starc pulls, there is a deep square leg in place which keeps the shot down to a single. Smith pushes the fifth delivery through mid wicket, adds one run.

AUS 451/7 in 112 overs

Washington round the wicket to Smith. Uses the angle to work the first delivery through the on side for two. Another run for Smith through square leg. Starc gets an edge past slip as the ball turns square away from him, two runs.

AUS 446/7 in 111 overs

Jasprit Bumrah back into the attack. SIX! Starc uses his levers to slog this over long on.

AUS 440/7 in 110 overs

Just one run from this Washington over. Grip and turn aplenty for Washington in this over. Starc is lured into drives but the ball leaves him after pitching.

AUS 439/7 in 109 overs

Jadeja once more. FOUR for Smith, heaves this over covers. Nitish Reddy puts in a dive to stop this but his body touches the rope as he intercepts the ball. Three more singles in the over.

Siraj again. Four byes! Siraj tries a bouncer against Starc, not on the mark as this sails way over the batter and the keeper. It has been given a wide too.

AUS 411/7 in 105 overs

WICKET! Jadeja strikes. Cummins is on 49 and looks for a big heave to get his fifty. The ball comes off the toe end and Nitish gathers it at mid off with a diving effort.

Pat Cummins c Nitish b Jadeja 49(63)

Mitchell Starc in at No. 9.

AUS 411/6 in 104 overs

Siraj to continue. SIX! Smith shuffles across the line and hooks this bouncer over fine leg. FOUR! Uff! Smith shuffles down the ground and absolutely smokes this through extra covers.

AUS 399/6 in 103 overs

Jadeja for the first time today. Five singles from the over with the last one getting the partnership between Smith and Cummins to 100 runs.

Smith goes past Root!

Smith with a back foot punch to add two more, moves to 99 with that. FOUR! Hundred for Smith, drives this past mid off to get to his 34th Test ton.

AUS 371/6

Siraj. An LBW appeal against Smith but umpire says not out. Indians discuss but don’t go for the review. Replays suggest there was an inside edge. Three singles in that over. Drinks.

Akash hasn’t been consistent with his lines today. Short ball and Cummins upper cuts it over slips for four. He attempts the upper cut again, but this time is beaten. Another four! Half-tracker and Cummins pushes the ball towards extra cover boundary.

AUS 344/6

Bumrah. Short leg in place, Bumrah bowls into the ribs, Cummins somehow manages to get the ball away from the fielder and get a single. Two singles in that over.

AUS 342/6

Akash Deep. Plenty of plays and misses for Smith this morning. Better areas by Akash in this over.

AUS 342/6

Bumrah. After three length deliveries, Bumrah challenges Cummins with two short balls. He finishes the over by squaring the Australian captain. A maiden.

AUS 342/6

AUS 332/6

Bumrah continues. And continues to trouble Smith. On three back-to-back deliveries, Bumrah squares Smith. There’s nothing he can do but appreciate the skill of the bowler. A maiden.

AUS 332/6

Akash Deep continues. After four good deliveries, Smith finally finds some width and he opens the face of the bat to guide the ball towards point region for four.

AUS 325/6

Jasprit Bumrah is back. So only one over for Siraj. Smith has been shuffling across a lot but hasn’t been able to time the ball that well so far. Edge and four! Luck for Smith, the ball goes past cordon.

Indian players wearing black armbands today

IND vs AUS, 4th Test: Why is India wearing black armbands on Day 2?

The Indian team took the field wearing black armbands on the second day of the fourth Test against Australia in Brisbane to to pay respect after the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Virat Kohli fined for his spat with Konstas

Kohli had cut across the pitch and brushed his shoulder against Australian debutant Sam Konstas in the morning. The youngster reacted and Usman Khawaja stepped in as the mediator.

He was later fined 20 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Bumrah concedes a six in Test cricket

Sam Konstas smacked 34 runs off 33 balls off Jasprit Bumrah.

AUS vs IND, 4th Test: Jasprit Bumrah concedes a six in Tests for the first time in three years

It is not often that batters take on Jasprit Bumrah, especially in Tests. However, on Thursday, Australian Test debutant Sam Konstas played an extra ordinary knock that included hitting a six against Bumrah - first time in three years.

What happened on Day 1?

Plenty of things.

- 19-year-old Sam Konstas shines on debut, scores an attacking 60 off 65 opening the innings.

- All four of Australia’s top order batters score fifty. Steve Smith is unbeaten on 68 off 111.

- Travis Head falls for a seven-ball duck. Jasprit Bumrah picks him as well Usman Khawaja and Mitchell Marsh.

- Australia 311 for six at stumps.

Here’s the first day’s report by K.C Vijaya Kumar:

AUS vs IND, 4th Test: Konstas shines on debut as Australia gains control on Day 1, Bumrah offers Indian counter-punch

Between overs, Kohli shoulder-barged Konstas, words were exchanged, and Khawaja tried to be the peacemaker. Whether it was accidental remains a matter of conjecture but it showed the former India captain in poor light.
