A new, rainy day contest kicks off today.

Cuervo

With many festivals, parties and events held on weekends during the summer, there’s a collective sigh of disappointment when these highly anticipated festivities gets rained out.

So, Cuervo is offering its fans a chance to make lemons out of lemonade, or, rather, margaritas out of rainy, summer weekends in its latest sweepstakes.

Starting today on July 4 - the long weekend, of course - through Labor Day, fans can head to www.Cuervo.com/MargaRainCheck to upload a photo of a rainy summer weekend for the chance to win a round of margs worth $50 each.

Winners will be selected all summer long. The world’s number one tequila brand came up with this contest after looking at the data. Margaritas are the number one cocktail in the United States. According to Nielsen IQ, in 2023, the margarita was the most ordered cocktail in the country. In fact, the margarita has been consistently the most popular cocktail in the United States since 2015, and it’s one of the most popular, if not the most popular cocktail, in the world.

The Fourth of July is also one of America’s top occasions for enjoying cocktails. According to MikMak, the Fourth of July is a top-selling holiday for many alcohol brands, especially with off premise or at home drinking. At least a third of adults of drinking age plan to consume alcohol on the fourth of July.

With these two bits of data, the brand sought out to create a marg-focused sweepstakes specifically for the summer, says a brand spokesman.

What sealed the deal, in terms of developing a weather-related contest was looking at the weather data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, especially looking at how many Fourth of July festivities were canceled last year due to weather. The idea for a “marg-a-raincheck” came from the recent years’ summer rain showers putting a damper on Independence Day celebrations. “Cuevo wanted to create a fun sweepstakes that would help turn a rainy weekend around, to make sure people have fun in spite of the rain,” he says. “The marg-a-raincheck is a fun and easy way to bring some fun back into summer weekends, even when it’s unexpectedly rainy. The brand has found that sweepstakes and social contests are a great way to connect directly with consumers.”

Cuervo has seen that thousands of consumers enter similar contests so the brand expect its marg-a-raincheck sweepstakes to be very, very popular with fans.

The contest itself is pretty easy - all fans have to do is go to the website and upload a photo illustrating that their weekend was rained out - whether it’s a selfie in the rain or a screen grab of the weather forecast. And, best of all, consumers can continue to enter the contest every weekend during the summer that it’s rainy.

“We definitely expect consumers to embrace this contest,” the brand spokesman says. “Who doesn’t love free drinks? With the marg-a-raincheck, people can still enjoy the number one best thing in the summer - Cuervo margaritas, and they can enjoy them no matter the weather.”
