During a media briefing, Rohit Sharma stated that Shubman Gill is "99% available" for the India vs Pakistan World Cup match. Gill earlier practised in the nets, raising hope for the fans. Should Gill join the squad, it would allow Rohit to revert to his preferred lineup. 

India have not been managed to play with their "first choices" yet. In Gill's absence, Ishan Kishan has opened with Rohit for India. He was out for a Golden Duck against Australia while scoring 47 off 47 balls against Afghanistan.

India and Pakistan did not play against each other in 2007. The next encounter was in 2011 in India. Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first in Mohali. Sachin Tendulkar was the highest scorer again for India. With his 85 off 115 balls, India managed to reach 260/9 as Suresh Raina remained unbeaten at 36.

Each of the Indian bowlers - Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan - took 2 wickets each. Misbah-ul-Haq's 56 off 76 balls was in vain as Pakistan lost the match by 29 runs. India went on to become world champions that year.

Held in South Africa, this was the first World Cup encounter between India and Pakistan when the Men in Green won the toss. They decided to bat first. Saeed Anwar scored a century, but no other Pakistani batter could do much. The target was set at 274 for India.

India came back with a vengeance, with Sachin Tendulkar scoring 98 off 75 balls. Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh took it ahead while remaining unbeaten at 44 and 50 respectively. India reached the target within the 46th over and won it by 6 wickets. Sachin was awarded the Man of the Match award.

Azharuddin 59, but the highest scorer for India was Rahul Dravid (61). India put up 227/6 in 50 overs.

Venkatesh Prasad took 5 wickets and crushed Pakistan, which were all out for 180. Inzamam-ul-Haq was the highest scorer (41). India won by 47 runs.

Navjot Singh Sidhu scored 93 as an opening batter while Ajay Jadeja scored the second-highest score for India, 45 off 25 balls. 

For Pakistan, Aamer Sohail and Saeed Anwar gave a strong start with an 84-run opening partnership. The second wicket fell at 113. Thereafter, India started taking wickets at regular intervals. Pakistan fell short of 39 runs while Venkatesh Prasad was India's highest wicket-taker (3).
