The 15 Aussies snubbed at IPL auction in $2.75m blow
There were plenty of good news stories for the Australians at the IPL auction, but not for 15 players from the nation who were snubbed by franchises on Tuesday night.
Australians were in high demand during the auction with Mitchell Starc crushing the record in a $4.42 million deal with Kolkata Knight Riders.
His sale broke a record which didn’t event survive the night, with Pat Cummins’ $3.66m sale to Sunrisers Hyderabad having set the benchmark before.
In total, six Australians sold for more than $12 million — the most surprising being the stunning $1.78m Gujurat Titans purchase of BBL breakout star Spencer Johnson.

Cummins sets IPL draft on FIRE - $3.66m! | 03:34
But for all the big Aussie wins, there were still some big Australian losses on the night.
The largest belonged to Steve Smith, Josh Inglis, Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott, who all went unsold at the largest reserve price of INR 200 lakh (approx. $357k AUD).
It’s believed that a major factor in World Cup winner Hazlewood not being bought was that he’s due to miss a large portion of the IPL next year for the birth of his child.
Also failing to pick-up a deal was rapid WA quick Lance Morris, and Riley Meredith, who once earnt more than A1$m at the auction.
In total, the 15 Australian snubs were worth at least A$2,752,000 based on their reserve prices.
