Online voting system crashes as NSW heads to the polls for local council elections

The NSW Electoral commission said on Saturday morning it was investigating this issue and will resolve it as soon as possible.

NSW’s online voting system crashed on Saturday as the state heads to the polls for long-awaited local government elections.

iVote, the electronic system available to voters with low vision, those who live more than 20 kilometres from a polling booth, silent voters and people not in their council area on election day, was not working on Saturday morning.

“Voting via iVote is currently unavailable. We’re investigating this issue and will resolve it as soon as possible,” the NSW Electoral commission said in a statement.

“We regret any convenience caused”.

When voters attempt to log on, the iVote website says: “System update in progress”.
