'We've done it before: Crows' shock reveal over dramatic last-minute ...
Adelaide had the option to walk James Peatling to the pre-season draft but chose to prioritise its relationship with GWS after a standoff over future picks.
Crows list manager Justin Reid said they did not agree to part with a future second-round pick until 15 minutes before the Wednesday night deadline after the Giants offered to send back future third and fourth-round selections along with the 24-year-old midfielder.
After previously taking Jackson Hately to the 2020 pre-season draft after failing to agree a deal with the Giants, Reid said it had certainly never been the “intent” of the Crows for the situation to repeat.

“There’s a bit of good faith. You’ve got to also think about the long-term relationships you have in the game,” Reid said.
“We were keen to get James into the club as soon as we could. (The pre-season draft) was certainly an option, but certainly in good faith we wanted to deal with GWS.
“We’ve done it before, it doesn’t mean we won’t do it again, but it’s certainly not the intent.”
Trade Recap: GWS Giants | 03:13
Adelaide has been asked to cough up a future second-round pick to get a trade for GWS midfielder James Peatling over the line.
Reid said he believed both Peatling and free agent Isaac Cumming were not facing any sanctions from the investigation into alleged misbehaviour at the Giants’ post-season celebration.
He said the duo along with Melbourne’s Alex Neal-Bullen and the No. 4 draft pick heralded a major “net result” from the off-season.
“James, obviously we saw towards the end of the year his quick feet and what he can do around the midfield, and he can play a little bit forward as well,” Reid said.
“It’s certainly something we’ve been looking at over the last few years with James, and we think we can offer him some more midfield opportunities as well, so we’re really excited to get him into the club.”
