A second sporting body has launched an investigation into possible breaches of its code of conduct after images emerged online of jockey Jamie Kah with a white powder alongside greyhound trainer Jacob Biddell.

Greyhound Racing Victoria has begun making initial inquiries into whether Biddell has breached its rules of racing.

The trainer was captured alongside Kah in images circulated on social media days after the Melbourne jockey announced she was returning to racing following a high-speed fall.

Greyhound Racing Victoria spokesman Andrew Holmes said the club’s integrity unit was expected to make contact with Biddell in coming days, after recently being made aware of the images.

“The integrity department will be chasing some facts and information before we determine whether any rules of racing have been breached,” Holmes said.

“They’re doing their due diligence.”

Holmes said whether an offence would be a matter for the integrity commissioner.

Biddell posted a short, two-line statement on Instagram on Saturday after photos were published which show him, in the company of another friend and Kah. In one image Kah appears to have a plate of white powder.

“I will also not be making a statement or any comments. Please respect my privacy and please stop contacting me,” Biddell’s post read.

Kah meanwhile will be spoken to by integrity officers in coming days as they investigate potential rule breaches which could include bringing racing into disrepute.

Kah released a statement on Friday saying she was determined to focus on her health and recovery.

“I am working hard to get back to doing what I love, and that is being a passionate and successful jockey,” she said.

Victorian Jockey’s Association chief executive officer Matthew Hyland said they would support Kah during the investigation process.

“Our role is to offer whatever support at whatever capacity Jamie requires,” he said.

A Racing Victoria information sheet says jockeys can be tested for banned substances such as illicit drugs as outlined under the Australian Rules of Racing – but they are only conducted on race and trial days and during trackwork.

Racing Victoria said in a statement on Friday: “The Stewards will be making enquiries of Jamie Kah to avail themselves of all the facts before considering whether any Rules of Racing have been breached.”

Kah was suspended in August 2021 for the spring racing carnival for breaching COVID-19 protocols at a house party in Mornington. She was then sidelined for months after being badly injured in March.

Hyland said he had been in contact with Kah since the images emerged. While he would not comment on how she was responding to allegations resulting from the published images, Hyland said Kah was working hard to get back to form.

“I’d have said that she’s progressing along,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to her getting back on track, fit and healthy, and riding winners.”
