Stewards are investigating pictures of star Melbourne jockey Jamie Kah with what appears to be a white powder after they circulated on social media just days after she returned to the saddle following a horrific race fall.
Kah responded by saying she was determined to focus on her health and recovery.Credit: Twitter
Kah was sedated in March and in a critical condition in hospital after a high-speed fall during Super Saturday at Flemington.
Racing Victoria chief steward Robert Cram said of the photos that surfaced on Friday: “We are aware of the photos and we are investigating.”
He would not be drawn on whether stewards had yet spoken to Kah.
The photos, taken with some of her closest friends including greyhound trainer Jacob Biddell, have been circulating on social media in recent days.
Kah made a statement on her Twitter account about a News Corp story published on Friday night.
“I am determined to focus on my health and recovery following my race fall in March which left me with a serious brain injury and being in hospital for three weeks. I am working hard to get back to doing what I love, and that is being a passionate and successful jockey,” she said.
“I will continue to focus on my physical and mental health and making a full recovery so I can return to racing and be the best person that I can possibly be. I won’t be making any further comment.”
Kah became the first female to win the Melbourne jockeys premiership in season 2020-21 and she was the first jockey to ride 100 Melbourne winners in a season.

But within a month she was suspended in August 2021 for the spring racing carnival along with fellow hoop Ben Melham, for breaching COVID-19 protocols at a house party at a Mornington Airbnb.
Kah has been contacted for comment.
She still leads the Melbourne jockeys premiership by seven wins this season on 59 wins – despite spending the past three months on sidelines – and this week got her restricted licence to ride track work again.
“I can ride pretty much as much as I want at the moment, but I’m just trying to look after myself at the moment, if I’m tired don’t go to work,” Kah told Seven.
“I have to do one more balance neuro test ... and when I test that I can do jump out and races. Hopefully that is only a few weeks away.
“At the moment I just happy to be back on a horse.”
Kah spoke of her improvement in the past six weeks as she continued to recover from the severe concussion.
“I feel 100 per cent, I feel like I’m back to myself and I feel like I’ve got a purpose again,” she said. “Confidence is back to normal, I haven’t felt like I’ve missed a day.”
