Jimmy Barnes: Aussie rock icon shares health update after sudden hospitalisation, forced to cancel shows
Australian rockstar Jimmy Barnes has shared a health update after revealing he was hospitalised earlier this week and forced to cancel his upcoming gigs.
The 67-year-old revealed on Friday he was still suffering from a bacterial infection and had to cancel another show, this time at By The C Torquay in Victoria on the following day.
Barnes released an emotional statement to fans apologising for the sudden changes.
“I know a lot of people travel a long way for this gig so I’m really sorry that I won’t be able to see you in Torquay as I’d hoped.”
“This infection has knocked me for six so there’s no chance that the doctors will let me out of bed for the next few days.
“I’d like to thank my dear friends Mossy, Jon and Daryl, plus my wonderful kids Mahalia and David for putting together this unique show with my live band. It’s never been done before so I wish I could be there to see it myself!
“Again, I’d like to apologize to everyone — if I could be there I would be there — but it’s still going to be a helluva show.”
On Wednesday, the rockstar first made the announcement he was spending time in hospital to have intravenous antibiotics to treat his bacterial pneumonia and had no choice but to cancel his upcoming gig in New Caledonia.
“I’m sorry to let you know that I’ve been receiving intravenous antibiotics over the last 36 hours to treat bacterial pneumonia,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
“Unfortunately, this has stopped me travelling to Noumea to join Rock The Boat 2023 as planned.

“I’d like to apologise sincerely to everyone for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused, but the doctors have confined me to bed for two days.
“The timing couldn’t be worse.”
Bacterial pneumonia is an infection of your lungs and can result in a high fever, coughing up mucus, chills that make you shake and sharp chest pain.
