Former Arizona guard Josh Green traded to Hornets

JOSH GREEN

Two weeks ago Josh Green was playing in the NBA Finals. Now he's packing his bags to play for one of the league’s worst teams.

The 23-year-old former Arizona Wildcats guard was acquired by the Charlotte Hornets Monday as part of a three-way trade that sent Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks. The Golden State Warriors will receive two second-round draft picks as part of the sign-and-trade deal.

Green, a 6-foot-5 wing, is entering his fifth season in the NBA. This past season he averaged 8.2 points and a career-best 2.3 assists per game. Green played in 57 games for the Mavericks not counting their run to the NBA Finals.

He is joining a Hornets team that had the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference last year. Green will play alongside LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller in the Hornets backcourt. Green is set to earn $12.6 million next year.

The Australia native played the 2019-20 season at Arizona, where he averaged 12.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
