Buckets of Bud, chicken wings, and hot dogs were aplenty as Australian NFL fans in Melbourne descended the Super Bowl live site party at Marvel Stadium.

Among the revellers was Lawrence Miha, who had been saving a seat since 8.30 am for a group of friends.

Miha, whose NFL team the Giants have sadly gone another year without a Super Bowl appearance, said the NFL was “just another sport I follow.”

“We are here for drinks, but I am going for the Chiefs today,” Miha said.

A group of young Americans on a gap year belted out The Star-Spangled Banner with a US flag draped over one of them.

“This is America’s game, I’m here for my country, I need to feel at home,” said Esti Bleich.

At a function room above the crowd, former Philadelphia Eagles punter and AFL player Arryn Siposs said NFL was getting a bigger in Australia.

“It’s been quite a difference since I’ve been gone [from the NFL], it’s getting so much bigger here,” the former St Kilda FC player said.
