Kansas City Chiefs 0 - 3 - 10 (16)

The Chiefs have 75 yards to go for the win!

The Chiefs start with the obvious - Mahomes to Kelce for 10.

And now Mahomes breaks it out and scrambles for 3 yards.

Mahomes to Noah Gray in the middle, and suddenly Kansas City is at halfway!

52 seconds and counting././.

Mahomes throws to his left, and it's incomplete to Justin Watson.

3rd and 2.

Key Event

Jake Moody kicks a field goal for San Francisco - they take the lead!

The rookie kicks a 53-yard field goal - the third-longest in this game!

The Niners have the lead, 19-16, but there is 1:53 left in the game, and Patrick Mahomes is going to get the ball.

Good grief.

Key Event

It's the two-minute warning - San Francisco is 35 yards from the end zone!

Two minutes, 120 seconds of game time - which as anyone who follows American football knows will take a lot longer than the two minutes.

San Francisco is 35 yards away from a touchdown, they'd want another five or so to be confident of Jake Moody making the field goal - although after that last extra point, who knows?

Kyle Shanahan has the chance here to become part of the first father-son coaching duo to win a Super Bowl in NFL history, but is there one last swerve in the storyline?

Third and four ... Purdy back to pass, but his ball is deflected.

It's fourth and 4! Dare they go for it? Dare they rely on the kicker?

San Francisco with the ball

Who would be Brock Purdy right now?

The man picked 262nd in the 2022 NFL Draft, now has the chance to drive his team downfield to give them the lead late in the final quarter of the Super Bowl.

How's his heart-rate?

That's a start, he flips the ball out to Jennings — who has had one of the biggest influences on San Francisco tonight — and he runs for 23 yards!

First down - and there's an end around run to Deebo Samuel, and they get another first down!

They're into Kansas City territory, with 4:29 left.

Ok, it was 2nd and 1, but McCaffrey takes care of business and now they have the first down. 3:54 and ticking.

Another flip to McCaffrey, and he gets five more.

Who breaks here? Will there be another turnover, another stop, or can the Niners take the lead again here?

Purdy is flushed out, he flicks it behind his body to George Kittle for a yard or two. It sets up 3rd and five.

And here's the field goal that ties it upLook back at Jauan Jennings' touchdown

Key Event

Kansas City kick a field goal - and the game is tied!

Harrison Butker kicks a short field goal, and it's 16 apiece.

There is 5:46 left in the game - or at least in regulation ...

Could we be off to overtime?

What can Brock Purdy and the 49ers do here?

Chiefs on the ball

...And it's Mahomes to Kelce for a first down to kick things off.

Can the Chiefs get rolling here? Pacheco runs up the middle for a big nothing. It's 2nd and 10 at the Kansas City 41.

Mahomes goes back to pass, he flicks it out to Rashee Rice, but the ball misses. 3rd and 10.

And it's Mahomes. To Kelce. Again. For another first down.

It's almost as if it's scripted!

WHAT WAS THAT?

A bobbled snap comes to Mahomes, who instead of throwing it away, heaves it long and it goes just over a San Francisco defender.

But now Mahomes hits back! He goes long to the left and Justin Watson gets out of bounds at the 21 after 25 yards.

Clock is ticking down towards eight minutes as Pacheco runs to the 12 for nine yards. They are threatening here.

And Pacheco powers through for a first down and more. He's down to the four yard line! First and goal!

Pacheco is called again, he gets a yard. 2nd down at the 3.

Mahomes is flushed out, he runs to the right and tries to find Rashee Rice but it's battwed away.

Third down ... Mahomes has to run, and he gets run down - it's fourth down! Huge effort by the Niners defense.

Strap yourselves in ... it's the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl!

Three points in it, a little over 11 minutes left.

That is the fifth missed kick by Moody in the last four games — will it be critical?

Moody roosts the kickoff into the end zone. It will be Kansas City from their 25. What can Patrick Mahomes do?

Key Event

Chiefs block the extra point!

But now the extra point kick from Jake Moody is blocked!

That could be critical! It's 16-13, and the Chiefs can tie it with a field goal!

Key Event

San Francisco score a touchdown to re-take the lead!!!!

Brock Purdy goes back, flicks it over the middle to Jauan Jennings who will not. Be. Stopped.

Touchdown San Francisco!!!

San Francisco driving downfield to start the fourth quarter

That's a great start — Brock Purdy takes his time and finds Barndon Aiyuk downfield for 20 yards!

First down ... and Purdy goes long to the end zone but he is pressured and the ball goes too long for Samuel.

2nd and 10 on the 22.

They give it to McCaffrey again, and he rumbles for eight yards to the 14.

It's 3rd and 2 ... And they call McCaffrey again, but to run wide and he's taken down for a loss!

4th and 3 — and they're going for it!

They make it! Purdy goes wide to George Kittle and the big unit runs and gets airborne to make the first down!

First and 10 at the 11 ... McCaffrey runs it, and gets one yard.

Key Event

Three quarter time - Kansas City 13 San Francisco 10

The 49ers have 15 minutes to rescue things, they're at the Kansas City 42 yard-line to start the final quarter, and the time is now.

They haven't managed much since their trick play to get the touchdown in the second quarter. What they wouldn't give for a McCaffrey breakout run right now.

San Francisco with the ball late in the third quarter

That's a good recovery, McCaffrey goes ahead for five yards.

Now the 49ers take a time out. This is a VITAL situation.

There is no option but to get a drive going — if they give it up, and the Chiefs get going, another score will kill it off.

Great play for the Niners! Purdy fires a perfect ball to Jauan Jennings on the right side of the field.

First down, a minute left.

Purdy swings the ball out to a banged-up Deebo Samuel, and he lowers the shoulders and barges for nine yards.

2nd and 1 - Kyle Juszcyzk gets the first down ...

And time runs down in the third quarter.

15 minutes to go!

The nightmare punt return for San FranciscoSan Francisco under the pump late in third quarter

This is crisis time for the 49ers. They have had just three yards gained in the third quarter, they have NOTHING.

And first down, Purdy's pass is batted. 2nd and 10 — and now there's an injury for one of the 49ers offensive line.

It's all going a bit pear-shaped for the men from San Francisco.

Key Event

TOUCHDOWN to Kansas City! The Chiefs take the lead

And it only takes one play — the 49ers defense are caught on the hop, and Marques Valdes-Scantling gets the easy catch in the end zone.

Chiefs take the lead!!!! Here we go.

Harrison Butker kicks the extra point, Taylor Swift is jumping around in the stands — and the 49ers are dealt a devastating blow.

Chiefs back in possession in the third quarter

Kansas City is beginning to grind the 49ers down.

They run it with Pacheco for three yards, then a hair-raising shovel pass from Mahomes to Kelce gets a few more.

It's 3rd and 2, and Kelce is off again!

Mahomes is pressured again, and his pass on the run to Rickie James falls short. Punt.

SHOCKER! 49ers stuff that right up, Ray Ray McCloud fumbles the kick, and the Chiefs fall on the ball at the San Francisco 17.

That's a game changer!

San Francisco have the ball late in the third quarter

Kansas City barrel the ball into the end zone for a touchback.

49ers from the 25. Pressure is right back on Brock Purdy.

Christian McCaffrey runs it for no gain. The Chiefs defense senses an opportunity here.

And now they're under real pressure again - Purdy flings a low-percentage long pass, it's incomplete and 3rd and 10.

The Niners need to steady here.

Purdy goes downfield, tries to force it in for Jauan jennings, but Trent McDuffie breaks it up.

The Chiefs get a three and out....

A 55-yard punt from Mitch Wishnowsky, who is having a GREAT game. The Chiefs will start at their 25.
