Karl Stefanovic provided one of the most cringeworthy moments of this year’s Logies, taking a cheap shot at his former brekkie TV rival David ‘Kochie’ Koch.

Stefanovic — who famously hosted the Today Show while drunk following the 2009 Logies — got himself into hot water on Sunday night when he tried to ad-lib on-stage as he introduced a tribute to Barry Humphries.

Referencing an earlier appearance by Kochie who said he had enjoyed season three of Aussie drama Bump, Stefanovic tried to draw a long comedic bow to him enjoying a “bump” of cocaine.

“I did want to just check something … I am pretty sure before I heard Kochie say he loves Bump’s … season 3. Did anyone mishear that? Because I am pretty sure I did. Anyway, those are the headlines tomorrow morning …”

Cameras cut to a bewildered-looking Kochie and an audience that was less than impressed.

The awkwardness was later addressed by Logies host Sam Pang who joked: “I don’t want to say Karl’s joke about Kochie sank, but OceanGate are offering expeditions to visit it.”

Social media users were quick to roast Stefanovic over the joke.

On the Today Show on Monday morning, Stefanovic appeared to realise the joke was on him and was apparently regretting his poor form.

After the show played a montage of jokes from the Logies, the camera cut to Stefanovic, who said,“You see, that is a funny man”, before bursting into mock tears.

“Oh Karl, you’re all right! You’re OK,” co-hosts Sarah Abo and Brook Boney reassured him.
