Educators, administrators and school leaders from all over the state gathered in Lexington where the Kentucky Department of Education presented 16 awards for best practices to schools and districts during the 2024 Continuous Improvement Summit. (LEXINGTON, KY) – The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) presented 16 awards for best practices to schools and districts during the 2024 Continuous Improvement Summit at the Central Bank Center in Lexington on Sept. 23-24.

“I am proud of our educators and their All In commitment to giving Kentucky children engaging educational opportunities that will benefit them both inside and outside of the classroom,” said Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher.

The summit allowed attendees to invest in their growth as a leader and a teacher and offered strategies to make a difference in their work and in their students’ experiences.

KDE Associate Commissioner Kelly Foster presented each Best Practice winner with a $500 check to be used for school improvement.

Those recognized were:

Lafayette High School, Fayette County, Equity Evaluation of Title I Funds. Carroll County Schools, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports: Cultivating a Culture of Success. The Promise Academy at Harrison Elementary School, Fayette County, Building Teacher Effectiveness through an Instructional Coaching and Feedback Cycle. Reidland Elementary School, McCracken County, Family Friendly Schools and Community Involvement at Reidland Elementary. Oldham County Schools, Igniting Passion and Experiencing Excellence through Deeper Learning. The Promise Academy at William Wells Brown Elementary School, Fayette County, Guiding Coalition and Task Force. Oldham County Schools, Increasing Engagement in Secondary Math Classrooms. Carroll County Middle School, Building an Instructional Coaching System. Bryan Station Middle School, Fayette County, Restructuring In-School Suspension to Improve Student Practice. Carroll County Schools, Systematic Process for Monitoring Walkthrough and PLC Data. Semple Elementary School, Jefferson County, PLCs and Responsive Teaching. Oldham County Schools, Instructional Rounds in Education. Holmes Middle School, Covington Independent, Positive Office. Butler County High School, Butler County, Professional Learning Communities from Beginning to Success. Oldham County High School, Oldham County, They Deserve to Read: Empowering Teens with Foundational Literacy Skills. Plano Elementary School, Warren County, Bridging Gaps, Building Futures.

In 2013, KDE launched the Best Practices and Sustainability website, which was designed to serve as a clearinghouse to promote practices that motivate, engage and provide measurable results in student learning, achievement and school/district processes.

The website supports teachers, administrators, district personnel and any other education advocates seeking strategies that have been proven successful in a variety of settings. KDE has identified effective practices that improve student performance and promote practices for educators to improve educational opportunities for all children.

Any Kentucky teacher, school or district may submit a best practice to KDE for consideration to be a Best Practice award recipient by visiting the Best Practices and Sustainability website.
