Kmart opens another store in western Sydney, creating 200 local jobs
Kmart has opened another store in western Sydney, boosting its empire to 320 stores nationally and creating 200 jobs locally.
St Mary's first Kmart opened its doors today, marking the 18th store to open in Sydney's west, where two of the most popular Kmart's in the country are also located.
A spokesperson for the store said the western suburbs had a higher proportion of young low-income families, who will benefit from the stores popping up in the area.
Huge name new arrival among Australia's most distrusted brands
"Our entire proposition for Kmart is to focus on making everyday living affordable for Australians through access to great quality products that they can afford," Kmart Australia and NZ CEO John Gualtieri said.
"We know that with the cost-of-living crisis, this commitment has never been more important for our customers.
"For many of our customers, every dollar saved when they shop with us means an extra dollar on the mortgage or towards bills.
"It's not just the jobs that we create that are important when we open a store, it's also the access we are providing to great quality products at the lowest prices to make life that little bit easier that matters."
St Mary's town centre will also eventually receive a major upgrade when the Metro is built to connect the area to the Western Sydney Airport, Minister for Western Sydney Pru Car said.
"Having the suburb's first Kmart store opening today is a much-needed addition to the town centre," Car says.
"Not only is this great for local families, but the opening of this store will bring in almost 200 new jobs to the area.
"A majority of the store's staff are under 21 years old, and I am pleased that our young people are now able to kick off their work experience right here in our community."
