Latrell Mitchell

Latrell Mitchell will meet with South Sydney powerbrokers on Tuesday following the star fullback’s disappointing start to the season.

That is according to The Sydney Morning Herald, who reports coach Jason Demetriou will also hold a separate meeting on Tuesday with Mitchell to discuss his form and discipline.

It comes after Mitchell was hit with a three-game ban for elbowing Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson in the head during the Rabbitohs’ 34-4 loss on Saturday.

However as Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly told the Herald, this meeting was scheduled two weeks ago.

“The meeting was scheduled well before the match against the Warriors,” he said.

“Everyone at the club is invested in getting the best from Latrell on the field this season.”

South Sydney powerbrokers have always been quick to defend Mitchell whenever he is criticised in the media, however the Herald reports they are running out of patience — and Solly will reflect those concerns in the meeting.

The 26-year-old became embroiled in an awkward social media exchange with Anthony Mundine after he called for Roosters prop Spencer Leniu to receive a lengthy ban for calling Broncos five-eighth Ezra Mam a “monkey” before the matter was heard at the judiciary.

He was then heavily criticised for an interview on Triple M following the Rabbitohs’ loss to the Broncos in Round 2 due to the amount of swearing in it.

And on Good Friday his actions were called into question after a dangerous contact charge for a tackle on Josh Addo-Carr, which left the Bulldogs winger concussed.

Mitchell will reportedly be told he needs to earn trust back through his actions after letting his team and club down.

As for Demetriou’s meeting with Mitchell, the Herald reports the coach will simply tell his marquee player that he needs to be better.

Demetriou has been criticised in the past for his unwavering support for Mitchell.

Club legend Sam Burgess alleged last season, prior to his exit, that Mitchell received special treatment from the coach, while it was reported recently that Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston questioned why Mitchell was being credited for the tackle on Addo-Carr, which could have resulted in a suspension.

Demetriou needs his superstar No.1 to deliver more than ever given his job as head coach is on the line following the Rabbitohs’ 1-4 start to the season.
