The NRL integrity unit has been made aware of a photo of Rabbitohs superstar Latrell Mitchell leaning over a table near what appears to be a white substance.

The image began circulating with news outlets on Monday morning and shows Mitchell, 27, leaning over some furniture.

There is no suggestion the white substance is an illicit drug.

The NRL confirmed it had been alerted to the picture, but had not begun a formal investigation.

When contacted on Monday, South Sydney officials said they were trying to determine the veracity of the photo. Mitchell adviser, former manager and boxing promoter Matt Rose, was in America and said he hadn’t seen the image yet.

There’s no indication of when and where the photo had been taken.

In a statement, the Rabbitohs said: The South Sydney Rabbitohs have been made aware of a photograph circulating through social media of Latrell Mitchell following a personal appearance in Dubbo on the weekend.

“The club has informed the NRL integrity unit about the photograph. The Rabbitohs will be making no further comment at this stage.”

The image also shows a blonde woman in the foreground, but her identity remains unclear.

Mitchell attended a coaching clinic at Dubbo on the weekend as he continues to recover from a foot injury which has likely ended his season.

The Australian and NSW representative, one of the highest-profile figures in the game, hasn’t played since early July when he suffered a Lisfranc injury to his foot and missed the State of Origin series decider.

It’s unlikely he will play again for the Rabbitohs this season with the club out of finals contention.
