Leeds United Women return to FAWNL action as they travel across the Pennines to face Stockport County Ladies on Sunday.

Simon Wood’s side head into the clash on the back of two impressive victories, with the midweek cup success over Halifax Women following a professional display away at AFC Fylde last weekend.

In the 2-0 victory over Halifax, versatile attacker Drew Greene continued her impressive start to life with the Whites, scoring the second against her former club as Leeds progressed to the next round.

After grabbing a first goal for her new team, Greene says she is delighted with how her side have started the new campaign.

“Against Fylde, I thought that we started off not at the tempo that we know that we can play at, and the level that we can play at,” she explained.

“We spoke at half-time about upping our levels and standards in the second half. I think that we were just a completely different team when we came out. We scored three goals, but I think it could have been more.

“Onto Halifax, it is always nice to win a local derby mid-week under the lights. They didn’t make it easy for us, but we were patient and we kept pushing and we got the goal. It was good to get the win to build the momentum towards the weekend.

“It meant a lot to score my first competitive goal for Leeds, but obviously it was more important contributing to the team and securing the win to get us into the next round.

“I am naturally an attacking player, so getting goals and assists is always important for me. I really enjoyed getting my first goal and especially against my old team.”

Used in a variety of roles so far, the 28-year-old is excited for this weekend’s clash with Stockport, seeing the fixture as another early season test.

“Like I have said before, as long as I'm on the pitch, I don't really mind where I play, but my strength is definitely attacking and dribbling and going forward. But anything that Simon wants me to do, I'll definitely fill in and try and do the best for the team.

“We know it's going to be a tough game. We know that they have recruited really well and they have been getting good results in the games that they have played.

“We just have to concentrate on our performance and make sure that we set our standards again. We know what we can do well and we will take that into the game and hopefully we can come away with three points and another win.”
