Manchester United may have slipped to a 3-0 defeat in our final pre-season game, against Liverpool in South Carolina, but there were still some positives to take - including some encouraging individual performances.

The final score was not the ending to Tour 2024, presented by Snapdragon, that any fan would have wished for, but pre-season is about getting minutes for the whole travelling squad and assessing the output of every player.

Goals from Fabio Carvalho, Curtis Jones and Konstantinos Tsimikas gave our rivals the victory, yet the outcome could have been very different if United had taken some of the chances created at the other end of the pitch in both halves.

Warm-up friendlies often bring with them a flurry of substitutions, as Erik ten Hag works to ensure everyone is in top condition ahead of the season opener, and the Stateside game against Liverpool was no exception. With that in mind, we asked supporters to vote for the best player who started the game, and the best substitute to enter the fray midway through the action at Williams-Brice Stadium...

BEST STARTER - AMAD AGAIN

There have been plenty of promising showings in our pre-season tour, particuarly from the younger contingent, but Amad has been among the most notable throughout.

He put his stamp on last season with his last-gasp winner in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final against Saturday evening's opponents and looks to have carried that momentum through with him this summer.

In this latest game, the Ivorian managed to create the most chances and won the joint-most duels, earning him 24 per cent of the vote.

Closely tailing him was Marcus Rashford, who polled 19 per cent after consistently troubling the Liverpool goal in the first half, despite being unable to get the better of Caoimhin Kelleher on this occasion.

A special mention must go out to Academy product Harry Amass, who has turned out at left-back throughout the tour and faced Mo Salah down his flank in this bout. He still managed the most tackles, the joint-most duels with Amad and got forward well, netting him 18 per cent of the vote.

As you can see in the poll result below, support also arrived for Toby Collyer, Mason Mount and Jadon Sancho.

BEST SUB - SUPER SCOTT

With a number of changes made after the interval, as is common in these warm-up matches, the game finished with an almost entirely revamped United XI to the one that began it.

Of those that entered the field from the bench, it was Scott McTominay who impressed the fans the most, storming the vote with 31 per cent. He came close to breaching the Liverpool defence when he picked up the ball on the penalty spot and quickly shifted his feet to produce an angle to the side of Kelleher, but fired marginally wide.

Academy striker Ethan Wheatley was the runner-up in this poll with 20 per cent of the vote. Like Amass in the backline, he is another young United product to have appeared in all five of our pre-season games and he caught the supporters' attention in this contest.

Sizeable chunks of the vote were also split between Christian Eriksen, Antony, Will Fish - who unfortunately had to be withdrawn through injury - and Maxi Oyedele.
