The voice cast features Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, Gaia Wise as Héra, Luke Pasqualino as Wulf, Miranda Otto as Éowyn, Lorraine Ashbourne as Olwyn, and Yazdan Qafouri and Benjamin Wainwright as Helm's sons Hama and Haleth.

As of Dec. 13, critics have given the movie a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. For his review for the The Hollywood Reporter, film critic Frank Scheck wrote that “fans are sure to appreciate the call-outs and references to the earlier movies, including sections incorporating composer Howard Shore’s original themes and a late shout-out to Gandalf.”
Scheck added that viewers who are not familiar with the universe “will still be able to enjoy The War of the Rohirrim on its own visually grand, mythic storytelling terms, even if it does eventually seem overlong at 134 minutes.”
