As she continues to recover from a serious bacterial infection that sent her into the hospital, Madonna isn't remaining silent. The singer has been on a roll lately, dropping collection after collection of remixes of some of her biggest hits. Now, apparently without warning, the superstar has given yet another set to her fans on what is a very important day for her.

On Thursday (July 27), Madonna released Lucky Star (Remixes), an EP that focuses on one of her earliest smashes. The EP features three versions of the single "Lucky Star" including the original, a seven-inch edit, and one track labeled the U.S. remix. The short project is the latest remix collection from Madonna, who has been doling them out all year. In fact, Lucky Star (Remixes) is her seventh such release of 2023 alone.

So far this year, she has produced remix albums and EPs centered around previous hits like "Nothing Really Matters," "Love Don't Live Here Anymore," "Hollywood," and "Ray of Light," among others. Each release has been met with excitement from her loyal fanbase, eager to revisit classic Madonna tracks with a fresh twist.

"Lucky Star" was initially released in the fall of 1983 when Madonna was just beginning what would go on to be one of the biggest careers in pop music history. The track served as the fourth single from her self-titled debut album, following in the footsteps of hits "Everybody," "Burning Up," and "Holiday." It would be followed by another memorable tune, "Borderline."

While she has been sharing remixes and full albums all year, the fact that Lucky Star (Remixes) arrives today is likely not a coincidence. Today is the fortieth anniversary of the release of her album Madonna, and so many people consider it to be a very special day for the singer. Her career properly began, as far as the public is concerned, in a major way today 40 years ago, and she's still making much of the songs on that LP.

2023 has been a year of looking back for Madonna. In addition to her many retrospective remix releases, she spent the first half of the year preparing for her The Celebration Tour, which was slated to take her around the world as she performed many of her most beloved smashes. Sadly, due to her recent hospitalization, she had to postpone the venture, and while portions of it are back on track, other legs are yet to be recognized.
