Just a week after a famous win in the Manchester derby, Manchester United slumped to a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth.
It is the second season in a row the Cherries have managed to win 3-0 at Old Trafford, with goals from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert (penalty) and Antoine Semenyo doing the damage.
United will be in the bottom half of the top flight on Christmas Day for the first time since the 1989-90 season.
Huijsen headed in Ryan Christie’s corner after almost half an hour to put the Cherries ahead, once again exploiting the Red Devils’ vulnerability from set pieces. It was the ninth time United have conceded from a set piece (excluding penalties) in the Premier League this season, more than any other team except Wolves (16).
United trailed at the break but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. Bruno Fernandes had five attempts by himself in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net.
Things unravelled further in the second half for Ruben Amorim’s side, though. Noussair Mazraoui fouled Kluivert in the box, with the Dutchman picking himself up to dispatch the penalty just beyond the hour mark.
Just two minutes later, Semenyo made it three after being picked out by Dango Ouattara to condemn United to their seventh league defeat of the season.

For the first time in the Premier League, Manchester United have lost successive home games against the same opponent via a 3+ goal margin (both 3-0). Across their entire club history, it’s just the second time that it’s happened in league competition, after defeats to Burnley in 1961 (4-1) and 1962 (5-2). Manchester United have conceded 17 goals from set pieces in the Premier League in 2024; their most in a single calendar year in the competition (exc. penalties). Only Southampton (5) have conceded 3+ goals in more Premier League home games this season than Manchester United (4), whilst it’s the first time that the Red Devils have done so as many times in a calendar year in the English top-flight since 1972 (4).Enjoy this?
