British pop star Ed Sheeran has apologised to Ruben Amorim after inadvertently interrupting the new Manchester United head coach during a live television interview.
Amorim was talking on Sky Sports after United's 1-1 draw with Ipswich on Sunday — the Portuguese manager's first game in charge of the Red Devils — when Sheeran walked up to embrace analyst Jamie Redknapp.
The much sought-after former Sporting Lisbon manager drew headlines when he was poached by the struggling Premier League giant United, and fans were waiting to get the new manager's thoughts.
However as Amorim was speaking, Sheeran wandered out onto the set at pitch-side to catch up with Redknapp.
As it was explained that an interview was going on, Sheeran said "I don't think he wants to talk to me!" after Ipswich Town had taken a point off United.
To which a nonplussed Amorim replied: "No, I don't want (to talk to you)."

The interview was paused before Redknapp told Sheeran to "come and say hello in a minute".
Sheeran is a lifelong Ipswich fan who holds a minority stake in the club.
He was pictured celebrating after Omari Hutchinson's equalising goal in the game at Portman Road.
A sheepish Sheeran was left to send an apologetic message later to his 48.4 million followers — and Amorim — after the on-air faux pas.
"Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn't actually realize he was being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie," Sheeran wrote on his Instagram story Monday, local time.
"Obvz feel a bit of a bellend but life goes on. Great game though, congrats to all involved."

Redknapp posted pictures on his Instagram account of Sheeran in the Sky studio with analysts Roy Keane and Izzy Christiansen, as well as presenter Kelly Cates.
Amorim's debut game at United started in explosive fashion with Marcus Rashford scoring with less than 2 minutes on the clock.
However the points were shared after Hutchinson's deflected effort.
Despite the result, Ipswich Town are in the relegation zone, sitting 18th in the Premier League table with just 9 points from 12 games.
Last week, Ipswich CEO Mark Ashton said Sheeran had helped the club sign a new player in the off-season when taking a Zoom call with him just before going on stage with Taylor Swift.
