Local runner Knight’s Choice has pulled off an incredible Melbourne Cup boilover at 100/1 odds, upstaging a field of fancied international runners to win a thrilling 164th edition of the race.
The horse edged Japanese raider Warp Speed in a nail-biting photo finish, with Okita Soushi third in a frantic finale that featured winning chances all over the track in the closing stages.
Paying as much as $101 on fixed odds before the race, Knight’s Choice paid $81 on TAB fixed odds to become the longest-priced winner of the race since Prinze of Penzance in 2015.
Jockey Robbie Dolan was in disbelief when interviewed after the win.
