The Fire hasn’t just been wrapping up wins during the festive holidays the team has also been wrapping up presents. The players spilt themselves across various shopping centres throughout the city to help package presents, for a small donation to the Salvation Army.Alex Fowler, Nya Lock and Lucy Cochrane was Townsville’s trio of not so little helpers at Fairfield Central Shopping centre with the latter taking control.

“I would agree with that actually. Yeah I’d say I’m in charge of the operation and these are my 2 little elves.”

Showing the same cohesion and precision they’ve been displaying on the court of late, the ladies picked their paper out and parcelled up items ready to be popped under the tree. Nya was rather wrapped… with her wrapping…

“I wouldn’t honesty rate myself about a 7. You know that saying practice makes perfect, well I did it the first time I went pretty good, and as I’ve done more I feel like I’ve become a master.”

The guard gave advice to customers on one perfect present which won’t require wrapping and that’s tickets to Fire home games, with 2 still to be played before 2024 is over.

“I think that’s probably the best gift anyone could get. So we play at home against Geelong on Sunday the 29th and then again on New Year’s Eve against Bendigo. It’d be awesome to see some massive crowds. We love the support we get at the Fire Pit and the fans definitely spur us on.”

Lucy also suggested stuffing stockings with club merchandise and adding a touch of orange to traditional Christmas colours.

“Yeah there’s lots of gear to choose as well, from jerseys to tee shirts, polos and plenty more. Plus you can get them in all sizes so the kids can represent as well.”

Some of the players like Lucy are heading home for Christmas while Nya will make the most of a few days off and spend her free time soaking up the sun on Magnetic Island, with import Lauren Cox.

The Townsville Fire wishes all its members, supporters and sponsors a very Merry Christmas!
