The Blues have found their man, with Michael Maguire reportedly accepting an offer from the NSWRL to become the next NSW coach.

Maguire, who coaches the New Zealand Test side in addition to working as an assistant at the Raiders under Ricky Stuart, will replace Brad Fittler at the helm of the Blues.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Maguire has informed the Raiders of his decision to take the Blues’ job and has already made moves to lock in a coaching staff, with John Cartwright set to be apart of a new-look coaching set up.

It isn’t known yet whether the Blues job, which is only a part-time contract, will mean Maguire will have to forego his position at the Raiders and/or Kiwis.

For now, it is just a one-year deal for Maguire.

Cartwright himself had put his name in the ring for the top job just a couple of days ago, but the NSWRL went with Maguire to steer the Blues out of the hole of back-to-back series losses against the Maroons.

Maguire has coached 233 NRL games across ten seasons for the Rabbitohs and the Tigers, which included a premiership with Souths in 2014.

In addition, the 49-year-old has been the Kiwis head coach since 2018, compiling a 10-5 record.
