Port Adelaide picks up Quinton Narkle in mid-season draft

Mid-Season Draft 2023

PORT ADELAIDE has strengthened its playing list with the selection of experienced midfielder Quinton Narkle at Wednesday night’s 2023 Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

A highly skilled midfielder with an eye for goal, Narkle previously played 41 games and booted 18 goals in five seasons on Geelong’s list.

After being delisted by the Cats at the end of last season, he has earned a second chance in the AFL after impressing with Essendon’s VFL side in 2023.

The 25-year-old West Australian has averaged 20 disposals per game across nine matches so far this year and booted 8.4.

He was a standout in the Bombers’ loss to Brisbane earlier this month when he had 29 disposals and three tackles to go with two goals.

A second cousin and former schoolmate of Port Adelaide forward Sam Powell-Pepper, Narkle was initially taken by the Cats with the 60th selection in the 2016 National Draft and was used primarily as a forward in his time in Geelong.

Port Adelaide has previously claimed Cam Sutcliffe (2019), Jed McEntee (2021) and Brynn Teakle (2022) through the mid-season rookie draft.

"We were looking to add midfield and forward depth, and Quinton has experience in both these roles at AFL level," National Recruiting Manager Geoff Parker said.

"He is a mature body that can help us now and into the future.

"He's got great character traits and is desperate for a second chance. We know he'll do everything he can to make the most of this opportunity."
