Former world champion Andre Ward just said on Netflix: "Hopefully people aren't too disappointed but he's 58 years old, what did you expect?"

And I guess that sums it up pretty nicely.

Today was, it's hard to say, an unqualified success for the fighters in the ring.

In the two world championship bouts we were treated to two absolute epic contests.

In the main event, we saw a 27-year-old out-pace a 58-year-old who hasn't been in a professional bout in 19 years.

To put the entire farce into context, Jake Paul was six months old when Mike Tyson bit the ear of Evander Holyfield.

Tyson was a boxing legend, but his well-publicised issues since his retirement, as well as his abhorrent behavior during it, is not conducive to still being at your best in your late 50s.

We knew all that. We all knew it would be a car crash. We still watched.

What an embarrassment for the sport and all of us who tuned in. Love the idea of live sport on Netflix but this was truly terrible

That was the saddest "boxing" match in history, the whole event seemed to be a quick paycheck and everyone who spent money on this is the real loser.

Mike Tyson is in the ring. He's not talking much, he's still absolutely gassed to be honest.

"Absolutely happy," he says with how his fight went.

"I knew he was a good fighter.

"I didn't prove nothing to anyone, just myself. I'm not one of these guys who goes out to please the world, I'm just happy with what I can do."

Why was he biting his gloves?

"I have a biting fixation," he says.

He credits Paul as well.

"He's a very good fighter. Absolutely."

And is this the last time we will see him in the ring?

"I don't know. It depends on the situation.

"I don't think so."

So who would he fight?

"I dunno. Maybe his brother?" pointing at Logan Paul.

"I'd kill you Mike," says Logan.

Here is the winner, Jake Paul.

"Mike Tyson, this is such an honour," Jake Paul says, on Netflix.

"He's the greatest to ever do it.

"He is an icon. It was an honour to fight him.

"He was exactly what I thought he would be.

"Thank you America. This is the era of truth. It feels like we're back.

"I was trying to hurt him."

As for who is next for Paul?

"Anyone I want," he says.

"This is the biggest event, over 120 million people, we crashed the site.

"Canelo needs me.

"He knows he wants the payday, he knows where the moneyman is at."

Here's how the judges had it.

I mean, great.

And this was by far the worst of the entire televised night that we saw.

I am just glad that Tyson got out of that OK.

Sure, the scorecards will have Jake Paul the winner.

But what is a victory against a troubled 58-year-old even worth?

I had it 78-74 in favour of Paul.

Final round.

The crowd are resigned.

Tyson is late to get off his stool, taking every second available to him.

Paul looks to the body, misses, cuffs a couple of shots.

Tyson catches Paul but there's no power behind it now, if there ever was in this fight.

Paul jabs, missing though.

Paul misses with three jabs.

Now he comes in and lands.

Paul is barely landing.

The crowd is booing.

This has not been great but, to be honest, who expected it to be anything else.

With 10 seconds to go, Paul bows to Tyson.

They stop, content to let the clock run down.

And now they embrace at the bell, forehead to forehead.

"Speed your s*** up," says the Paul corner.

"You can stop Mike."

He throws a couple of jabs, again has Paul running.

There's a shot from Paul that lands to the body. Paul might be setting up the overhand right.

He looks for a left hook but misses, only a cuffing contact at most.

Paul lands a two punch combo.

Now he goes again with a one-two combo.

Two shots to the head from Paul, but that's has enlivened Tyson who lands one of his own!

A nod of respect from Tyson as the bell goes.

Tyson is still not moving his feet, but is trying to be up and down.

Now he darts in a bit.

Paul jabs but it falls short, and again.

Tyson leaps in but misses.

Jab thrown by Paul into the body of Tyson, but he misses.

Now he lands though, to the body and then up top.

Tyson comes forward and sends Paul leaping backwards.

Paul throws out jabs that miss.

There is disquiet in the crowd, booing as Paul runs away.

"He doesn't have it any more," Jones Jr says in commentary.

I mean, he didn't have it any more 19 years ago.

We're into the second half.

Paul was being told to got harder in his corner.

Tyson throws a jab.

Paul lands with an overhand right, now a one-two shot from Paul.

Tyson jabs but misses.

Tyson ducks under a jab.

Now Tyson is knocked back by Paul to the chest.

Left hook lands from Tyson! "Good shot," says Jones Jr.

Cuffing left from Paul, tentatively lands.

Now Paul tries a body shot, and lands with an overhand right.

Now Tyson lands with an overhand right to end the round.

Tyson is told to relax by his corner.

Paul comes to the centre of the ring.

Tyson jabs, misses, Paul does the same.

Paul lands with a long-range right.

Good jabs from Paul.

Paul lands a two-punch combo.

Tyson is struggling, feeling the pace.

Paul can pick him off at will here.

Two long jabs land from Paul.

Paul lands a cuffing left to the head.

Paul has taken his foot off the gas, perhaps hesitant to really hurt Tyson, who is walking back to his corner like a geriatric.

It's not pretty.

This is an appalling spectacle.

TYSON COMES OUT SWINGING!

This is all action to start the third!

OH WOW!

Paul lands with three left hooks! Tyson didn't like that.

Paul is confident, and he's landing to the head of Tyson.

"Mike does not look good at all," Roy Jones Jr says.

He ducks under another right.

Paul lands to the head with an upper cut.

"He's in big trouble, this might be his last round," Jones Jr says.

Paul doesn't step on the accelerator and Tyson sits down at the end of the round.

Very static isn't he.

Tyson lands with a nice shot.

It's cagey, but the crowd is really getting behind Tyson still.

They clinch and there are boos.

Paul jabs to the body.

I expect Tyson to come out and fly into Paul in an awesome display of fistic fury. After that, who knows what's going to happen.

Here we go.

Tyson comes forward, Paul gets on the run.

Paul dived at Tyson and gets caught under his arm.

Tyson hits Paul!

Tyson lands again with the right!

Tyson is chasing Paul, Paul is running and they clinch.

They clinch again - everyone boos.

Tyson lands another shot!

Paul jabs and runs, jabs and runs.

Now lands a combo. Nice stuff from Paul.

Paul jabs, Tyson chases and punches to the body. He is warned for hitting low.

Tyson jabs to end the round.

The crowd is really getting behind Mike Tyson.

It is roaring as he is introduced to the crowd.

There are 72,000 people in the stadium.

There are millions watching online.

And Netflix appears to be struggling, with more outages being reported - as indeed is ours at ABC Sport HQ.
