MKR RECAP | Semi-Final Spots Up for Grabs on Sunday's MY ...
With three teams leaving the competition, judges Manu Feildel, Colin Fassnidge, and newcomer Nigella Lawson were left both impressed and disappointed.
Radha, Prabha, Sonia, and Marcus, having already secured their spot, didn’t participate in this particular battle. Meanwhile, Tommy and Rach, the team with the subsequent top score, were greeted with a surprise announcement by Colin: “We told you in the Instant Restaurants that every point would matter. Guess what? For this round, you are off the hook.”
A mystery fridge challenge awaited the four competing teams – Nick and Christian, Aaron and Chris, Claudean and Anthony, and Amber and Mel. Each was presented with a unique hero ingredient. Tensions escalated, especially between culinary experts Nick and Christian, who were handed fruits and vegetables, and BBQ aficionados Aaron and Chris, who got pork.
“They cook pork more than any other protein. It’s a huge advantage,” remarked Christian.
With beef as their core ingredient, Amber and Mel decided on a Lebanese dish, a recipe passed down from Mel’s mother-in-law. Claudean, feeling the immense pressure, served oversized portions. Post-tasting, the judges were in agreement. Aaron and Chris, Nick and Christian, and Claudean and Anthony were safe, leaving Amber and Mel to face elimination, a decision influenced by the split yogurt sauce accompanying their kibbeh. Mel gratefully commented, “so much gratitude that we’ve been able to get this far”, as they bid adieu.
The next challenge, focusing on desserts, saw Tommy and Rach re-enter the fray. Nigella’s expectation of decadence had Claudean revealing: “There is a literal bad desserts club on MKR, we are all in it except for Sonia and Marcus.” Christian humorously added,
“We were proud cardholders of the bad dessert club. I believe we were the CEOs for a while.”
The final leg was fraught with stress. Claudean and Anthony’s zeppole was undercooked, Nick and Christian’s cheese cigars malfunctioned in the fryer, while Aaron and Chris nervously waited for their chocolate fondant.
Ultimately, Nick and Christian’s inventive Blue Cheese Cigars with Red Wine Figs earned high praise, especially from Nigella who expressed, “As far as we three are concerned, yours was the best dessert of the night.” Joining them in the semi-finals were Tommy and Rach, marking the end for Aaron, Chris, Claudean, and Anthony.
