The 90 seconds of TV that left one MKR team reeling: 'Really hard to ...
It was the 90 seconds of tense TV that left one MKR team reeling just two nights into the new season of the hit reality show.
During Tuesday night’s second episode, mother and son team Sonia and Marcus cooked a three-course meal for their fellow contestants and judges Colin Fassnidge and Manu Feildel in the Instant Restaurant round.
The Adelaide team were determined to draw on their Italian heritage and skills to create three winning dishes.

But while their Margarita Bombe Alaska dessert was highly praised - and even scored a perfect 10 from both judges - their lobster crumpet entree and pasta main fell well short, resulting in a wave of “painful” critiques.
The pair scored just 28 out of 50 from the other teams, with several groups giving Sonia and Marcus a tally of just five.
“We went from having a really good feeling from the feedback from the bombe alaska to smacked right back in the face with that score,” Marcus said after the scores were read out.
“I don’t even know where to look any more, like this is awkward. It just seemed awfully low.”
Sonia agreed that it was surprising to hear that the other teams had marked them so poorly.
“I thought we maybe deserved a couple of extra points from the guests,” she added.

“It hurt,” Marcus said.
Sonia agreed, saying: “The critique from the entree, while it wasn’t horrendous ... it wasn’t what we were expecting.
“That was hard to listen to. Very hard to listen to.”
Marcus added: “Painful to listen to ... but it all made sense and it stung the most because it was all things we could control and didn’t do.”

“Stop pumping your muscles, brother,” he said.
As Manu consoled a tearful Sonia, she admitted that she was “very emotional at that point and devastated”.
Marcus, who failed to listen to his mum’s instructions during the round, said he took responsibility for the team’s poor dishes.
“That was the first moment of the night where I was like ‘S***, am I going to take this away from mum?’” he said.
