NAB has resolved issues related to its app and internet banking systems after suffering an outage on Monday. Thousands of customers faced issues accessing their online banking and called out the bank for not being able to log in.

Customers trying to access internet banking were met with a message that confirmed the service “isn’t working at the moment”. The bank apologised for the inconvenience to customers.

“We’re aware of an issue currently impacting some of our services including internet banking, mobile and desktop,” NAB told customers on social media on July 1.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience this is causing. Our teams are working to resolve this ASAP. We will keep you updated.”

Customers were advised they could still use telephone banking for anything urgent.

NAB customers first started reporting issues on Monday morning, with Down Detector showing a spike of nearly 1,400 outage reports at 1:30pm.

But the issue was fixed overnight and NAB said customers should be able to use all the systems now.

"We have resolved all technical issues with Internet banking. Our banking services are back online and running normally. Again, we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. Thank you for your patience as we investigated," NAB said.

Frustrated customers have taken to social media to complain about the outage, with some sharing that they were unable to pay their bills or make urgent transfers.

“Have bills and things I need to pay and can't... hope it's up and running soon,” one said.

“Thanks NAB. Now I can't transfer money to pay for my 600 dollar Woolworths groceries,” another said.

A third added: "Why have you not sent an email or text to all your customers informing them of the outage? Horrible to arrive at a payment page for a complex flight itinerary only to find out that I cannot pay for it with PayID, and there is no way to recover the booking. Very unimpressed."

Another customer raged: "I needed to pick up my medication hours ago. Now the chemist shuts in 30 minutes. Your mishap is dangerous and more than just putting people out."

NAB was most recently hit with an outage in November last year, with mobile app, internet banking and NAB Connect services impacted.

It comes about a month after ANZ customers were hit with an hours-long outage. It later confirmed this was due to an unnamed "third party vendor".

The cause of the NAB outage is currently unclear.
