Port Stephens gears up for NAIDOC Week
The Port Stephens community will pay homage to Indigenous Elders as it gears up to celebrate NAIDOC Week in 2023.
Although proceedings officially kicked off at Raymond Terrace on Thursday 29 June, many other events are planned throughout the LGA to recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Mayor Ryan Palmer said the occasion was a great opportunity to acknowledge all their contributions within Port Stephens.
“This year, the NAIDOC Week theme honours the knowledge and experience Indigenous Elders have, and how they harness this to help guide younger generations,” he stated.
“They are cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers and nurturers for their families and their wider community.
“Elders are the heads of their families, and this year’s focus on family-friendly events helps to bring everyone together for a day of fun and celebration.”
