Brad Kimbrough has joined as a post-production operations specialist. In this role, he’ll help ensure the department’s technical workflows, resources, tools and technology for producing videos are efficient and up-to-date. Brad will work closely with video journalists, producers and editors to troubleshoot operational and technical issues, train them on post-production systems, and assist in the adoption of new tools.

He came to The Times from Courageous Studios, CNN’s branded content studio, where he developed and led post-production workflow systems and file management. Prior to Courageous, he worked as an editor and assistant editor on a range of stories, experience that will serve him well in his new role. Our newsroom isn’t unfamiliar to him: As a freelancer over a decade ago, Brad edited news videos for The Times. He also worked on independent feature documentaries, including as an assistant editor on “Long Strange Trip,” about the Grateful Dead. Brad also participated in the Sundance Institute’s Documentary Editing & Story Lab, and his work has screened in festivals, on television and at the Brooklyn Museum.

Alex Pena

Alex Pena will join the team as a senior video journalist on June 10. He will focus on breaking and continuing video news coverage.

He comes to The Times from Vice News, where he worked as a producer/shooter on both short- and long-form video stories. Before Vice, Alex spent almost eight years at CBS News, most recently as a producer and digital journalist based in Miami. His team covered breaking news and enterprise throughout the U.S. southeast region, Latin America and the Caribbean.

He’s reported on the U.S.-Mexico border, migration in Central America, natural disasters in the Caribbean, and the Venezuelan refugee crisis in South America.

Previously, Alex worked as a reporter/photographer for Stars and Stripes newspaper based in Kabul, Afghanistan, where he covered the war as an embedded journalist with U.S., Afghan, and coalition forces. He got his start as a freelance journalist based in Nairobi, Kenya.

His work has garnered two Emmy Awards, an Edward R. Murrow Award and an Overseas Press Club Foundation scholarship. He is a native of Miami and a graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University.

Welcome Brad and Alex!
