New Zealand vs England

England and New Zealand will play a handful of Test matches in 2024 either side of the All Blacks' endeavours in The Rugby Championship.

The opening fixture between the two giants of rugby union took place on July 6 in Dunedin when the hosts battled to a 16-15 win.

England's 21-year wait for a win on New Zealand soil dragged on as a result of the agonising defeat.

The visitors then attempted to square the two-match series and inflict the first loss upon the All Blacks at Eden Park in 30 years in the final Test.

Who won New Zealand vs. England rugby union match at Eden Park?

Beauden Barrett produced a brilliant display off the bench to help break England’s hearts for the second straight week as New Zealand emerged with a hard-fought 24-17 win in Auckland.

The All Blacks were pushed all the way once again during the second and final Test match between the sides, only for the home side to push away in the closing stages and keep their 30-year unbeaten run at Eden Park intact.

New Zealand opened the scoring through Mark Tele’a when he crossed during his side’s first real foray into England’s territory in the 11th minute.

The try a result of a number of errors which the visitors made in the opening exchanges with a mix-up at a line-out proving costly.

However, despite England’s sloppy start to the game, they immediately hit back through Immanuel Feyi-Waboso. Marcus Smith’s pin-point cross field kick expertly reeled in by the winger on the right to level the scores.

Both sides struggled to get their line-outs in order and picked each other off at regular intervals during an entertaining first stanza.

Yet it was a penalty where the next points came from with England pinged at the scrum for repeated infringements.

Damian McKenzie booted the penalty from right in front to edge the All Blacks 10-7 ahead. The fly-half then slotted his second penalty on the stroke of half time to extend his side’s lead.

Although England once again responded with Smith providing his second assist of the night in almost identical circumstances when he floated a chip over for Tommy Freeman to touch down.

The All Blacks stunned while the clock ticked over into the red as the visitors snatched control with a 14-13 advantage at the break.

This lead was extended early in the second stanza as Smith booted a penalty goal after an infringement was controversially called against Dalton Papali'i.

But the All Blacks unsurprisingly refused to go down without a fight as Tele’a went over for his second of the night following some nice work in the build-up from Barrett to gift the home side the lead back 18-17.

Barret’s introduction was vital as he repeatedly ripped apart a tiring defence to help guide Scott Robertson’s side to the win as McKenzie kicked two more penalties late on to make sure of the result.
