Is Nicho Hynes in trouble for verbal outburst?

Cronulla Sharks halfback Nicho Hynes is set to come under NRL judiciary scrutiny following a verbal outburst directed at a touch judge during Sunday’s 30-26 loss to Manly.

After trailing 30-0 after 45 minutes, the Sharks sprung to life in the final 30 minutes of the contest. As Cronulla began to get on top, Hynes threw a cut-out pass to winger Sione Katoa which was judged to have gone forward by touch judge Belinda Sharpe.

Hynes was irate at the decision and referee Peter Gough took serious issue with Hynes’ attitude. The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio said the NRL was taking the matter seriously.

“The NRL will review the audio,” Riccio said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“There was a moment in the second half where Nicho Hynes (and he) vented his disappointment.

“I think it will come down to the language used.

“Everything I have heard suggests there hasn’t been anything (abusive) or any swear words.

“It’s not a Reece Walsh situation but it will come down to the language (from Hynes).

“It’s not a good look for Nicho but I did think Gough took umbrage in a stern fashion that I don’t know was necessary.

“I don’t know if there was equal levels of respect (from the referee towards Hynes) but I’m happy to be proven wrong.

“If there was swearing and carry on, then Nicho Hynes is in a bit of drama.”

The Sharks sunk to their second-straight loss and will face the ladder leading Panthers on Saturday night. Another loss could see the Sharks fall out of the top eight.
